Hi all,

I have joined the forum in order to get some advice on some damage to my car.

Bearing in mind, I am a girl so I know nothing about car bodywork repairs!!

I have spoken to a few places about repairing the dent (please see picture attached) and the method seems to be, putting pins in it to pull out the dent and then using filler to get the shape.

Would you say that this is the best method? A few friends I have spoken to have said that I should have it panel beaten rather than using filler but the garages I have spoken to have said most places would use filler.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as I am starting from zero knowledge haha!!

Equally, any recommendations for a good bodywork repairer to take it to in the Kent / SE London area would also be appreciated.

Thank you

Depends if you can get to the dent from behind it I guess, probably possible if some of the boot lining taken out... If not then the pin method is probably the best option, and they would probably use filler anyway unless they spend a lot more time (at your expense £££) to panel beat it out so it's perfect.

Panel beater doesnt mean theres no filler (unfortunately) Its just the skill of the first person in the repair process. Options are repair or a new qtr, repair being the cheaper and quicker method.

You'll probably find that the panel is double skinned so pulling it out with pins is the way. It will need filled and the entire panel will need spraying. Probably about £600 worth of damage there.

Mod note: Please don't the forums to advertise, cheers.

Theres no access at all from inside, its a completely closed off box section.
The 'pin & pull' method is industry standard and very successful results can be acheived, with just a light skim of filler to iron out any slight ripples.
No worries from my POV.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

It's a lot clearer and now I know thats the standard method, I will be a lot happier putting the car in to have it done.

I will just make sure I ask how much filler they intend to use!

Thanks again

They wont know how much filler they will use as every dent and panel beater are different.
