Hi folks,

I have been contemplating an x5 but happened to look at this vintage range rover. I was rather surprised to see they can be bought for as little as 10k.
My budget is upto 15k which would buy a nice X5 but have always liked these range rovers.

Would I be nuts to contemplate it? Or should I seriously think about it.

If it's the latter, any weak spots to check for?

Advice appreciated.

Mike. beer

Or................should I go for a discovery 3? nuts

Go for a Range Rover, nothing like it!

Go for either the 4.2S or the 4.4 as you seem to get more for your money (power and better mileage), for me the 3.0 Td6 was under-powered.

Have you also considered the Porsche Cayenne?

Cheers Evo,

I was really looking for a diesel, I know it's probably minimal mpg difference but ideally would prefer it.

Are the diesel engines good or a bit naff?

Thanks.

Feel free to drop me a pm, definately interested. I'm retiring in 3 weeks and aim to buy either a range rover or x5. Sensible head says x5 but I'm not very sensible nuts

The pre 2005 FFRR were made by BMW and share a lot of parts with the x5.

I can't really think why you'd go for an x5 over the RR.

Have a look at FullfatRR.com for lots of useful info.

go for it! just got an 04 4.4 with an LPG conversion.

there's been a couple of minor things i've had it back to the dealer for, but it's absolutely waft-tastic!

sat nav is rubbish, and i ended up fitting a parrot bluetooth kit which handles ipod/SD/USB to get a decent phoone and music system. there are options to update the whole system, but £££.

check everything electrical works, there's gremlins living in these things!

It's not really very shed is it Mike?
For that budget you could have a P38 or better still a good classic (you may not want to but you could) and something a bit smaller and faster, that you can modify, might be German, with a turbo....
And change.

Hi David biggrin
I know!!! I have been convinced by her ladyship in light of retirement i really should abandon bangernomics.....makes me twitch though but she's right. It also has to be large enough to transport a bananas long haired German shepherd. Oh and i would love another turbo but don't have the space now :-(
I'll be seeing you soon :-) looking forward to it!
