Citroen teases with new flagship saloon

Is this the next model destined for the DS sub-brand?

Citroen has released this enigmatic teaser shot of its next flagship saloon.

The new car will be a range-topper for Citroen's burgeoning DS sub-brand and is likely to be called either the DS9 or DS6 when it finally appears.

2010 Metropolis concept is the inspiration

Judging by the image it is also likely to be heavily influenced by the slinky Citroen Metropolis concept that appeared in the autumn of 2010 and was the first product of the company's Shanghai-based Chinese studio.

The DS9 is likely to be built on a modified version of the platform that underpins the Citroen C6 and would almost inevitably be powered by a V6 coupled to an electric motor and a dual-clutch gearbox, at least in its top-end forms.

But that's conjecture - no concrete information is doing the rounds yet on the new DS flagship. Not even when we might get to see it. Best bet currently is that it will appear first at the Beijing motor show in April as a concept, with a production version appearing in Paris this autumn.

One thing is for certain, though - if this car hits the streets it will spell the end for the slow-selling C6.

I have always liked big Citroens. Not enough to actually put my money down on one, but I have always liked them.

I really like the look of that but it wont end up looking like that and it won't sell.

FTFY.

China is their obvious target with a big interesting saloon, I'd love one.

Being the flagship, wouldn't they just call it the DS?
Calling it a DS8 with a twin turbo V8 would be more fun.

Cant see it being as interesting in reality.

The sneaky-peaky shot probably wont be the final car.

This is what we we're looking at i expect.

Agreed. If ANY car maker built a saloon car that actually looked like that and that worked in the real world, without costing #80k + i think we'd all buy them. Even if is was a Hybrid??? I think so !

Every municipality in France would buy one for their mayor, so 37,000 of them. biggrin

Big Citroens make me sad. Everyone looks and goes "Hmmm, yeah, Citroens... they ride really well you know - and they're better built than you'd think." and then go and buy something else.

I'm not sure why but nothing citroen do - not the looks (and the C6 looked brilliant) not the engines (same diesel as a Jag XF) not the ride (we all know it's great) - none of that ever translates into actual sales.

Crying shame to my mind.

Looks like Citroen are trying to match Peugeot's 508, which is also a very nice looking car.

I'm looking forwards to this. If it lives up to the hype and carries on the tradition of the big Citroens then 3-4 years down the line (assuming the usual depreciation) I'll be looking for one.
