hi all

Just wondering what people have had to replace on their mini's while they have had them, has anyone had a really good run from a clutch, power steering etc

Power steering pump, steering rack, supercharger. those have been the biggies, clutch was uprated to an exedy before I bought it. Depends on how old, how many miles and how much it's been ragged.

I had numerous problems after i bought my MCS last january, all sorted now though, but here's a list:

Air con unit - Compressor and expansion valve packed in.
Coolant leak - Needed new thermostat housing
Oil leak - Sump needed replacing
Rubbish brakes - Which turned out to be warped rear disc!
Supercharger - Air bypass valve got stuck open, when accelerating, just needed taking apart and lubricating.
Luckily all this apart from the supercharger issue were all under warranty,as they all occured in the first few months of buying her,i felt like giving them the car back TBH.

Think that's all,if i remember anymore i'll add them later.

2005 R53 Cooper S
70,000 miles (not exactly high)

Still on original clutch, power steering pump, gearbox. Clutch and gearbox feel great, the power steering is hard to read, could go anytime but has been trouble free so far.

Replaced the sump gasket, thermostat and bushes around 60k.

Happy.
i have a 2005 R53 Cooper S too with 71,000 smile im still on the original clutch but i think its going to go very very soon. iv replaced my sump gasket too. not sure what has been replaced previously. Just before i brought my car 18months ago i know it had a coil pack as it says it on paperwork. what would this be as im not good on cars

No,i don't have any warranty now, only took it back to the dealership where i got it because of the warranty, won't touch the place with a barge-pole,they are a terrible dealership.
Luckily i do have a garage which i have been using for the last 8 years, whome i know i can trust,i always intended on taking her there once the warranty had expired, that's where i had my supercharger issue sorted.
I know, same here,i won't get rid of my MINI either, love it to bits biggrin

I think once you have a mini all other cars seem to lack character. i would love to get a brand new one maybe one day. Not sure if you know but if your supercharger goes on your mini can u still drive it??

You will find they are the same hight, it's just the belt line is taller/glass is smaller.
I have got a picture I can put up later.

Just sold my 53 plate MCS with 90k on the clock. In the 5 years and 60k miles I had little trouble other than a steering pump at c80k and the exhaust downpipe/cat.
Sold it as I felt that the clutch, supercharger and cat back exhaust were all likely to go in the next 10k miles.

What did you get for it?
£3950 which I felt was quite good. It did have a sunroof and was in good condition

At about 50k miles high pressure fuel pump, coolant pump and gear shift selector. This was on a R56 and they were done under warranty.
