Just had the emissions tested as a pre-MOT indication.

We're getting the following :-
CO = 4-9% jumping all over the place yikes
HC = 400
Lambda = 1.01 (but fluctuating higher)

The car's already had plugs, leads and coil packs fitted as an attempt to eradicate a misfire.
These made no difference whatsoever to how she ran beforehand so the assumption is that they weren't the problem.
Replacement cats were fitted for the last MOT.

First suggestion is that it's the lambdas giving a false reading.

Can anyone give any further advice before I dip into the holiday money again?

I will go with you cos mine just failed its mot on the same thing rolleyesReadings were not that bad,but the guy said it seemed like a lamba sensor was on its way out......they did not fit cats to her for mot so this may be the problem......fecking hate mot time.Spending £££££££££s on her at the mo in other areas.Getting mine on the laptop in the morning to source the problem and have her set up biggrin

Did your mot tester not happen to trip and stick the gas sensor up the exhaust of the Clio parked next to you Cerb by mistake of course. wink

ps knew there was a slight issue cos my tickover was always highish when warmed up.fine on cold start but up to about 1050 on hot idle.....would be happier if she was down to about 800-900.....may save a bit of go go juice.

I've now got some more complete emissions test info for the car.

Nearside bank
HC = 508
CO = 0.20 %
Lambda = 1.53

Offside bank
HC = 192
CO = 7.78 %
Lambda = 0.79

Both sides tested at 2500 rpm.

Anyone come up with anything similar to this and managed to resolve it?
All advice greatfully received.

It's looking like my problem was a "wet and mouldy" ECU.
I'll find out more when the drying out process has been completed.

Update ....

ECU it was.
Lots of corrosion inside along with a piece of sponge!!
Pin corroded and broken off the main connector ..... basically censored

One replacement ECU later and everything sorted - new MOT and sounding like a low flying Lancaster on a bombing run.

Happy days (apart from the cost) cloud9

If you aren't doing anything with the old ECU I would be very keen to have it as spares for some beer tokens smile
