I'm looking for a small family petrol automatic hatch, say £7k budget. This brings me to a 2008 Mazda 3 with no warranty or a 2008 Kia Ceed with about 3 years of warranty left.

What would buy?

My Mazda 3 has done over 286,000 miles. Original clutch failed at 223k. Acc belt idle pulley failed at 186k oh and I did a wheel bearing a few weeks ago.

Apart from that just usual serviceable items. Mines the 2l ts2 petrol. At the last MOT the guy couldn't believe the mileage. He left it running on the ramp while he was getting his colleagues to guess the mileage. The guesses were between 50-85k

This is the thing - the Mazda 3 is often top or near-top of reliability charts (depends who you listen too of course) whereas the Kia Ceed is dropping down the charts as the cars get older and more data becomes available. However being able to buy used and still have a few years of manufacturer warranty available sounds nice but then I don't want to have to be back at the dealer every few months with something that needs fixing. And the Mazda does look nicer....

Maybe I'll spin a coin!
