Could someone advise whether this is the remote connection for my ECU ? I don't think it is because the wire colours are wrong and my car is quite an early one so I wouldn't be surprised if I don't have a remote connection point at all.

If I need to connect directly to the ECU is the port on the outide of the case or do I need to open up the unit to make a connection? I have stuck my head in the footwell but it's quite difficult to see all the way around the ECU because it doesn't come out very far.

Thanks.

Kieron.

Not going to be much help here but just to let you know my car has a 2 pin plug and a 3 pin plug. I think there is also some sort of plug socket (VGA type port thing) inside the ECU itself - if you can manage to detach it and get it open. I managed the first (after much swearing) but couldn't get the box open (followed by much more swearing) - and refitting it was the hardest thing of all!

I tried the 3 pin connector but that didn't work. Then added a 9-pin cable to the ecu (hole in cover). Last week, when changing the carpets, i found a second 3-pin connector below the steering column. Haven't tried that one yet.

There are 2 connectors under the steering column, I think one is a redundant connector from the loom, haven't found out what is yet.

I can get my hand on the ECU but can't see all the way around it. To disconnect it do you simply pull the connector off or is there some technique to it? Or do you have to undo some thumbwheels etc like a you do with a serial port?

I don't want to just pull is this isn't right.

Thanks.

Kieron.

The ecu is held in a bracket, secured I think with 2 nuts/bolts. Release the bracket and the ECU drops down and you can get to the connector. The connector is a latch mechanism and needs to be undone carefully (it is quite robust), then pivots around a bar at one end. Been a few months since I fitted the decat chip.

Thanks nrick. Ive got the bracket off and the ECU is resting behind the pedals, I just can't quite see the connector properly to get it off.
