to be thinking of selling my car?

I have had my Corvette Z06 since August 2006, I was always on the trade up for a faster car and this fitted the bill with sub 4 sec to 60 and near as damnit 200mph top end. Proper super car levels of performance.

I have recently decided to use it daily just to see how much it actually costs on my commute, especially as that commute is over the mountain section of the Isle of Man TT course. The thing is, it’s dawned on me that the roads aren’t really suited to such a wide tyred car (285 front, 345 rear) and it tramlines a lot, this wouldn’t be an issue in the UK but here everything is more ‘country’. It’s also too fast for the roads I drive it on and I don’t track it much as it’s too expensive to replace brakes/tyres etc.

This rather leads me to think of selling and getting something more useable, hence the insane in the title. I have always wanted to have a mini ‘collection’ of cars; I have no space for this at home and a growing family which means no chance for space for some years to come. The car doesn’t owe me anything so a sale would free up some cash for the house extension budget as well as some form of bonkers track car for fun.

I always thought I would keep the ‘vette for many years as the market for them as classics, particularly in the USA, seems buoyant.
Can anyone persuade/dissuade me otherwise?

I suspect there are several slavering C6 Z06 buyers sitting tight-lipped and saying nothing right now.

Personally, I think you're right. For the roads round by me, a fast hatch or Caterham would make far mores sense than my Mustang but when dd sense ever come into it?

You commute on the TT course... A bike is the ONLY option!

The Corvette must be little more than a pain in the ass on the IOM.

A lovely car but as you say, in the wrong place. Light and nimble is the way to go.

I'll give you £1.50 and an Integra Type R to take the Z06 off your hands. Much more useful for you smile

I've done the bike thing, not enough skill for the speed rush, too many near misses etc, still would though!

Its not that bad but definately not built for these roads.

Sounds like a recipe for white knuckles, I would be thinking something more approachable with half the power or less, oh, and a decent cage.

Trying to justify it now... smile

Well yes, It is a lot of fun to drive but can be a handfull hence thinking of selling. So far concensus seems to be to sell and get something I'll use more, I am leaning towards that myself.

I'd think hard....I was in a similar position to you having bought one of the first ones new and absolutely loving it....eventually decided to sell it in 10 as I was getting married but nothing since has come close. Even the 911 turbo I had last year felt a flat non event. Looked at getting another but the price of new one's are through the roof and a used one looked after the way I'd want is very hard to come by.

That said a megane r26r would be fantastic on the island.

I love Corvettes, but I do wonder if almost any modern fast car could be too much on such roads. Too much grip and in a way too much performance to make use of it.

Something responsive with WAAAY less grip might well be slower point to point, but a damn site more fun.

I'd consider a Caterfield type thingy
i was going to say that too.

or to keep everyone happy, and given that you live/drive on hte IOM TT coure, try a Radical SR3, its bike engined to keep the bikers happy, and bloody quick too to keep the speeders happy wink

only trouble is the low ride height, depending if your roads are as poorly rutted/potholed/tramlined as most mountain ones are here in Wales, you may find yourself repacing splitters on a weekly basis biggrin

I'd consider a classic all-weather, all-road A-B car: Lancia Delta Integrale

I reckon a nicely maintained one would be a daily blast on those roads.
