This week I had to go to Austria for a meeting.
Rented the Peugot in Vienna and drove to Graz about 185km away.
Next day drove back and so with a total of approx 370km covered I still had 3/4 of a tank with an indicated remaining range of 1220km !!! Thats near on 1600km (1000 miles) total range.
I didnt drive particularly slow and used cruise control, lots of hills to climb over etc.
I thought it was fantastic.
My Tuscan can do about 300 miles smile

It's a bit meaningless without knowing how big the fuel tank is!

Also Peugeot's are not known for good fuel consumption so the reality will be a lot worse than apparently indicated.

My wife's car indicates 500 mile range when full but at 300 the warning light is on.

So what was the fuel consumption then?

Fit a LR with twin tanks and it'll do over 1000 miles, but still might not return more than 25 to the gallon!

If you mean one of these (a 508 SW) then the op is correct.

We hired one for a few weeks in France last year. It had a 112bhp HDI engine with flappy paddle 6 speed box. It was driven like a rental should be, it went like stink mid range, really comfy, handled very well and was very very economical. Tank is 72 litres...

It was the fact that it impressed me that led me to look up engine/tank size etc

Yes, sorry 508.
It was giving instant indicated consumption which obviously ranged quite a bit depending on the ups and downs but was showing around 4,2/100km on the level at 130km/h in cruise.
So about 67mpg at 80 mph.
I dont know what the tank size was as Avis have the annoying habit of taking the hand books out of their cars.

I like what you say about the fuel light coming on at 300 miles range smile
Maybe I was too easily impressed.
I'll stick with my TVR's. At least I know when to fill up.
Its 700 miles from home to Office so not having 2 fill up stops, per Tuscan, sounded quite nice at todays prices.
Cheers anyway.

If it did actually use exactly a quarter of a tank (18 litres) then it did 57.9mpg overall.

In what way are they not known for good fuel consumption? Some models are, some aren't. As they share pretty much all their engines with somebody else (BMW, Ford, Volvo, JLR etc.) can't see why they're considered any worse than anything else.

Yes, same reason I started the thread. It was simply very impressive.
I drive tons of rental cars but this one certainly stood out.
