I'm thinking about passing through Le Mans at the end of April, and as I've not been there outside of a race weekend, thought I might stop over for a night or so and have a look around.

Can anyone recommend a hotel to stay in? Not looking at spending millions on a chateaux...

I'd stay here:

It's a small hotel which has a huge amount of history attached. The bar and restaurant areas are littered with old pictures and it's a lovely drive into Le Mans.. Have a look at the museum, town square and of course, drive as much of the circuit as you can smile

The Concordia is the flagship hotel in the town centre. Other than that the Mercure Centre Ville is quite nice. Le Mans is not expensive outside of race weekends.

Hotel De France is a good call although its actually a long way from Le Mans.Dripping in history and pleasant town.
Others in the area and a bit closer, Chateau de Bezonnais in Ecommoy. Looks dead posh but is really nice and pretty cheap. great breakfast, lovely setting and the family are lovely too.
Also Le Relais de Cheval Blanc in Beaumont Sur Pied is excellent and a fine restaurant.
