New car ordered - Dealer wants me to pay before quarter end

So basically I ordered a new BMW at the start of January with a roughly 3 month lead time.

At the start of the week the plan was that the car would be ready for collection at the end of the month which is conveniently end of quarter for them as well.

Now I have just had a call from the dealer to say the car won't be ready until very early April but they are happy to put me in a courtesy car if I pay the rest of the deposit on the car before month end so it adds to their figures.

Now obviously I would be massively helping out the dealership by doing this therefore I would want to make the situation work in my favour as well.

Any suggestions on things to make this work in my favour at all? A courtesy car and a BMW umbrella won't cut it I don't think.

ask for a discount on the car in return for helping them out in such a huge way. make sure you let them know how much of an inconvenience this is to you and how hundreds of starving children in the third world will die because of this etc etc lol smile

Surely they are doing you a favour by getting you in a new car 1 month early?

That's what I was thinking to be honest, some money taken off the deposit amount.

I think I'd rather wait then be covered in head to toe looking like a right in BMW trousers, t shirts, hats etc....

This. You're being given a car for free for a few weeks until yours is ready. I don't see why you would need anything more than that?

You're in a position of power. Make sure it's a very good courtesy car, and ask for some free mats.

Balls in their court mate just tell them to make it worth it or you won't bother. They will want you to put insurance in place as well so see what they say.

They need you more than you need them.

No I'm not, I'm being put in a car for a few days so they can make their sales figures look better.

I have access to a car for the time being so a courtesy car doesn't interest me at all in honesty.

Ask for servicing, paint protection treatment, mats or other bits and bobs that you fancy maybe a tank of fuel. Otherwise tell them you will pay on collection. Cant see them doing much in the way of a discount but they often have a budget for other bits and bobs they can dip in to. Sometimes the manufacturers give discounts for numbers of deliveries within a quarter so it could be worth a lot to the dealer, could also just be the salesman trying to hit his quota.

Why not just accept their kind offer and enjoy their car before you get yours.

Personally, I'd like to see the car before paying out my hard-earned...

I fail to see a maths question. I was more alluding to the point that you'll be lucky to get anything out of BMW. When I bought mine I had to fight to get a full tank and mats for free. Wouldn't even tax it free!!

Is it really only the balance of a deposit? I would have thought that would have been requested already, if you're only a couple of weeks away from getting the car.

Because as others have said, I am in a position of power and want something in return for helping the dealer out by increasing their sales figures and for dealing with the disappointment of them saying your new car is no longer ready when they said it would be.

You pay some of the deposit when ordering, typically £1000 and the remaining balance upon collecting the car, except in this situation of course smile

I'm going to hazard a guess that the difference between the end of the quarter and 'very earl april' is a few days, not a few weeks.

Personally I'd like to see the car first!
