bloomin marvellous steed! Awakened my '83 Targa from winter slumber and enjoyed the first proper drive since October today (...hey, I been busy!). I had forgotten what a hugely enjoyable experience piloting one of these old scuttle-shakers was.... just love the way it talks to you all the time whilst the engine makes an angry noise behind you, brilliant. I think I felt every bump, change in road surface, stick, stone and insect over every inch of the journey as the steering wheel tickled through my hands, loaded up into corners and directed the bobbing nose as the old girl pressed on... simply wonderful and not in the slightest bit intrusive. Still mightily impressed with the overall package considering the archaic nature and sheer age of the brute..... the 'autoheat' did its thing and kept the cabin at a comfy temperature, the seating position is comfy, all the controls have a simply delightful positivity, its still indecently quick (and more than quick enough to jostle modern traffic) and the noise is just addictive.... even the much-maligned 915 gearbox felt pretty crisp! Really quite impressed and a sharp reminder as to why I bought one of these air-cooled relics in the first place.
For the first time in ages I am actually really looking forward to the journey home from work... I think I will take the Targa off and enjoy the fresh air smile
As you were...

Took my little 3.2 for it's mot today. Thats the first drive since last October! Started first turn and passed. I still get a huge buzz from these old aircooled gems. Special on so many levels. The turbo and 993 will be playing out soon as well. Let's hope we have a long, dry, hot summer to enjoy.

I'm picking my little squidgy bumpered Targa up from the bodyshop tomorrow and you've gone and got me all excited. smile

I'm so pleased we have seasons in this country. There's nothing like the feeling of the first bright days of the year.

Great stuff, all of that communication that you just do not get with the new stuff.

They are very special. Having owned a fair few air cooled 911's over many years it is why I chose a 3.2 Carrera Super Sport as my weapon of choice.

My '82 SC Targa was my first Porsche and I still miss it. As you say, the way it communicates through the steering wheel is sublime. They're still so cheap too. Must...... resist......

My SC had its first proper 2012 outing last month at a Goodwood track day. Great way to shake off the winter
