I am going to do a front suspension rebuild on my pre-cat and will upgrade to 500 brakes (260mm). There are various ways of doing that but I need some calipers to start. There are second hand ones on ebay and in the classifieds but I would like a refurbed set if possible.

The company below is offering a refurbished front caliper for a 500 Chim, which I presume is the same for a griff, for £36 outright, which sounds very cheap. I phoned them and they use Brake Engineering which I think are one of the largest brake re-manufacturers in the UK. I have certainly heard of the name. The Brake Engineering reference for the caliper is CA320R but to be sure I need to provide the casting number from a 500 caliper. I realise that I will need the adaptor.

Could anyone let me know what the casting number is on a 500 caliper and also whether anyone has used Brake Engineering before, I know that Sportmotive use them for example.

Thanks in advance.

I know Quinny rated them for brake components, discs etc.

CA320R - Ford Sierra (Orion, etc...) Sounds like a reasonable and honest price, I imagine they have a 'production line' - strip, blast, coast, new seals, new pistons, new nipples (oo-er). Cost of parts is low, so bulk makes sense. I would have thought they would be good, there is only one piston so the price seems correct.

CrazyD kindly forwarded me a close up photo of a 500 caliper which shows the casting number as 244 within a small box and then a fourth digit, a 4 in another box next to it. I will call Brake Engineering on Monday and see if that matches up to CA320, which I assume is their part number. Thanks for the help.
