you seem to get a lot for your money. dti 1.9 150bhp 07 plate for £4000.00 with FSH and lots of extras.

i thought they were a GM engine and Vectra chasis.......so should be ok...shouldn't they?

Loved mine. Cheeky remap took it to around 200bhp.
Some cheap plastic parts in the cabin but other than that very comfy, lots of toys & nice to drive.

Every OEM part I ever bought for my 2003 9-3 Aero came in a GM packet. The only part I had trouble sourcing was for the SIA system, which became defunct after 2004.

and lastly how about reliability?

My take on GM engines is that they are reliable and ok but still a bit unrefined compared to others.

If it has a FSH and regular servicing it should be ok.

Thanks for your help all!

Pretty sure those 1.9 derv engines aren't the most reliable units. It's the same motor in the Vectra 1.9 cdti and suffers with inlet manifold issues, egr valve, failing alternator and the usual DMF and DPF issues.

I like the Saabs but I'd go petrol.

Bought a 55 plate one 2 years ago, added 40k to the clock now on 113k, only things that have gone wrong are front springs (one broke, common!) and a replacement alternator at 110k miles. Mines an auto and averages 46-48mpg with 55+ on a long run. Comfortable, decent aircon, base level stereo crap and some interior trim very plasticy. I'd happily but another one in the future.

I had a 150BHP 93 for 3 years and had the obligatory EGR valve problem. My opinion is that it is not a very good drive, is slow for the BHP, the central key position is irritating. Moved to a V50 Volvo and I think it is superior all round but that said I doubt you would get a similar spec'd Volvo for the same money.

Are they the ones with the ugly plastic trim like an Audi Allroad?

Either way, im sure its the same 2.8 unit they use in the VXR Vectra, and i don't think i've ever heard of one of them failing.

The Whatcar reliability index doesn't scores either the 95 or the 93 too well.

I haven't heard of anyone with much problem with one - diesel or petrol.

You do get a lot of car for your money.
