E60/E61 insurance
Discussion
Would appreciate any pointers on M-friendly insurers - just a got a renewal quote of £900 from lv for my E61 - 12K miles/year, parked on drive in a fairly safe neighbourhood, no accidents/claims/points, 9 years NCB, right ride of 40 (at least for insurance purposes!) and class 1 business use. Will do the usual comparisons with meerkats and tenors but would also appreciate any pointers.
I have recently renewed my insurance and believe it or not Tesco were by far and away the best. Previously I have been insured with Aviva via Adrian Flux and paid circa £850 p.a including breakdown. I am also over 40 and my postcode is not that great for insurers as I live in East London.
Aviva pulled the deal this year so I had to look elsewhere and the best I got was £950 with the average being between £1200 & £1400 it was then I tried Tesco and they were an amazing £720 plus I received a £25 fuel voucher to spend as well. I could not believe it, I called them to check and verify my details and everything was fine, I should add I have no tracker either, it was a very surprising no-brainer. An excellent deal so well worth a try in my opinion
Hope this helps

Seconded. Went with Tesco last year when I insured the E61, cheaper by a lot compared to the others...Aviva pulled the deal this year so I had to look elsewhere and the best I got was £950 with the average being between £1200 & £1400 it was then I tried Tesco and they were an amazing £720 plus I received a £25 fuel voucher to spend as well. My E61 was sold in last few weeks, still waking up in cold sweat whether or not it was the right thing to do. The owner of local Shell garage was visibly upset by the news that the car had gone, no doubt due to current lack of my bi-weekly visits to his establishment. I have been with Swiftcover for two years, £560/yr, I'm 36, 9 yrs NCB, with Tracker Monitor, and I live in country which I presume reduced the price considerably.

Don't know where you live, or how old you are, but I insured my E61 M5 with LV back in October for ~£400. Several other companies were in a similar ballpark.
I spoke to LV - they'll come down to about 550 but will require a tracker which I don't currently have. The comparison sights bring up numerous companies in the high 500s which don't require a tracker.I think tracker is a waste of time these days to be honest. The cost doesnt match the savings for a start, not even close. Then youve got the issue that the standard GPS and UHF systems are so easy to beat. You can buy jamming kit off ebay for £5 that'll plug into the cars lighter socket so its really easy for thieves to get round. Or they just drive the car straight into hard cover or a shipping container. If you want something more difficult to jam it'll cost you even more, and even then most good car thieves will have it ripped out by the time theyre a mile down the road.
The fact that insurance companies still rate it so highly is beyond me. Would you even want the car back if it had been nicked? Not sure i would. Theres no substitute for good home security, sensible key storage and a heavy iron bar handy in the bedroom.
