It's your car, put in what you like... but you may have trouble come selling time if it's a Vauxhall 4-pot or a Wartburg 2-stroke wink

You could plonk in a standard 3.5L Rangey engine but the power delivery may not suit a sports car... an SD1 Vitesse would be the way to go if you can find one in good order. Bear in mind that the RV8 is a very tough engine and will continue to run quite well even when the crank shells are down to the backing metal...!

Rob Robertson has a very nice 3.9 for sale on Ebay. Might be more than you want to spend though.

As long as you match the accessories to the pulleys it does not matter what pulley system you use. most from covers and pulley systems are interchangeable.
4.0 Chims are basicly a std LR engine with a Different Camshaft. so maybe worth getting a LR 3.9 (int. cover if possible) and fitting a new camshaft and lifters, this is the most common fault with these engines so worth fitting new any way. or you could get a more modern 4.0 / 4.6 (with out dizy.) and run a after market ECU.

They seem very good prices, Id go for the 4.0 HC Chim engine.

I have a complete spare 3.9 with all acc. etc. and will also be selling my old race 3.9 but would more move than any of the above for them.

I though all 3.5 engines was vittesse ones also, maybe the guy guessed at the CR in the advert.

The 4.0 chim engine can't be HC if it's 9.35:1, but as said the standard 3.9 / 4.0 Chim engines was basicly only had a Camshaft change and ECU remap, so they would be 9.35:1

My current 3.9 race engine is this spec and makes 230 BHP same as a Chim.

The P6 stuff will fit the Chim if it's pre Serp. if it your need a SD1 cover.

If the 4.0 Chim HC had the intermediate front cover though your best keeping that as it has the new oil pump, that is much better. buy your need to use the new style water pump.

The new style water pump though is short. but you may just have to make a custom alternator bracket. or see if the Chim one fits.

Are you running PAS ??

Are for CR for the HC 4.0 Chim, best ask on the Chim forum.

NP. as said in the Email they maybe too expensive for you. esp. as there seems to be quite a few good deals about, but also it not worth me selling for a loss. esp as I may need them later on, and don't need to currently sell. plus I'm sure I could get good money for a X-race engine on ebay if I needed to.

Because they notoriously suffer from slipped liners (the early injection map ran them too lean in the mid-range it's believed), they're rough thanks to the very long stroke crank, and don't actually produce much more power than a good Vitesse 3.5

The 4.6 is a torque monster in RR tune - fantastic for heavy landys, but not (IMHO) an ideal basis for a sports-car engine.
The standard heads don't breathe too well, which is why there's a massive torque hike, but little difference in power output (+20BHP).

The 3.5 is bulletproof, and in Vitesse spec is an absolute gem. The 3.9 is also very sweet, as it shares the same short-stroke of the 3.5.

Above that, they tend to be just torque monsters. The exception of course are the high capacity engines (SEAC type for example) which had some very fancy heads and further work done to them. This gets very expensive though if you're starting off with a Land-Rover based engine.

One of my best friends has a Capri with a fully mapped 4.2 Rover, which came from a Range Rover LSE.
It's making over 300lbft as I remember but 'only' about 230BHP - I've driven it, and its scary!

I've seen mine at 6750rpm once not slipped a liner yet

£ for £ the 4.6 wins IMO
