Hello all!
I have been using my dads old pioneer stack system he got in 1991 for the last 10 years problem free, everything on it works perfectly still to this day. And its been used probably every day over those 20ish years.

Now however one of the speakers inside one of the monitors(im guessing thats what they are called, the actual speaker box that contains 3 speakers) has stopped working! For a while it was making crackly noises and going on and off, Now though its just stopped making sound all together!

All the other speakers are fine! I took the offending speaker out and had a look to make sure the connections were secure on the back and everything seemed fine.

Can you buy replacement speakers for these boxes or am I going to have to buy new monitor/speakers all together? Had a look on ebay to see if I could find a cheap replacement single speaker but nothing at all came up for s-j400.

Speaker boxes are marked Pioneer S-J400

Cheers!

I wouldn't bother repairing unless you can find a really cheap replacement, speakers that came with old hifi systems were generally st to start with smile do your ears a favour and get a decent budget pair of new speakers to go with it, you'll be glad of the improvement and if the rest of the system is fine a worthwhile upgrade.

Have you tried swapping the speakers and amp outputs? Maybe it's the amp channel that's gone down?

^^^^ seems v expensive

get on ebay and get your self a pair of missions or something similar, as said you'll be more then happy with the result.

but check it aint the amp first, by swaping over speaker cables connections

If the speaker proves to have gone then a pair of wharfdale diamond 9s from richersounds at £40 will be an excellent budget replacement

Those look nice!

Ill be decorating the room soon so will take it all out to the garage and test everything properly. Think there could be a problem with the amp also, because sometimes there is a slight crackly noise if you switch between the speaker groups on the amp.

Its a 6 stack, and Im looking at downsizing it by taking out the cd player and tape deck so it fits on a shelf. So if it turns out to be an amp problem as well as a speaker problem it looks like Ill be using headphones for a while. Might give me time to save up for a new set of speakers, an av receiver and dab / fm radio set up.

Cheers!

If you are competent and aware of how to do stuff safely, it's often amazing what effect switch cleaner can have.
