After seeing a thread recently about what parts are hard to get hold of if travelling abroad, I popped down to my local dealer to stock up as I'm off to Le Mans and am planning a 2 week tour of the South of France and the Alps etc for September.

Things started well - the Serpentine fan belt coming in at a very reasonable £12. Thought a couple of 40A fuses were worth getting and also decided to get an accelerator cable... The bill was a shock! £50 for an accelerator cable? Jeez! I was planning on getting a couple of Leven items (handbrake cover, button covers) but these will have to wait now.

Are these sort of items available anywhere else at a more reasonable price?

This has been covered a number of times...

if you don't have a fan override switch, a short double male-ended wire can bypass a blown otter switch

A relay or two for the fuel pump

Dont forget a warning triangle, a first aid kit and a bulb kit, including a headlight bulb which will actually fit.

try the usual independents such as Joolz and V8sports if you want to get some cheaper parts.

I had my accelerator cable replaced a few months back. It is a land rover cable (£22 plus vat.)

Thought as much! I did query the price but was told it's a TVR specific part. Of course!

May be worth trying the factory direct, in a previous posting I mentioned the price of wheel nuts for a 4.5 Cerbera i.e. £ 6.00 EACH (inc vat) from my nearest TVR dealer, the same item £2.00 each (inc vat) from the TVR factory itself!!!!!!!
Toro.

Hmm, the one time I had a throttle cable snap over three years ago, I too was told that it was a TVR-only part - cost some £50. Outrageous!

The independant I used took the old one off and got a replacement at a motor factors. He said the land rover one was slightly longer than the TVR one, but identical otherwise. He also said that the longer one was better routed (spelling?).
