iPhone nav and car stereo problem

Hope someone can help me.

I have an iPhone 4s running nav free and an alpine cde 101 rm. when I connect my iPhone via the lead the sat nav sounds play through the speakers but the screen just goes to the main nav free welcome screen.
Can anyone help me to get the sound through my speakers and directions on the screen please?
