Uk spec 89 carrera, catalyst?
Discussion
Confused. Did the uk spec 89 carrera come with a catalytic converter, or a "pre muffler"? I'm yet to get the car, or I would look underneath.
Can anyone recommend a good (but still ok for cruising, volume wise) exhaust system? I'm looking at keeping the stock exchangers and using either a fabspeed or dansk system, anyone with experience care to chime in?

3.2 Carrera no cat, pre silencer yes. I'm running SSI's with heat exchangers and a Dansk stainless steel two in one out silencer. No louder than a standard system. Don't know why. 1989 964 Carrera 2 would have a cat fittedCan anyone recommend a good (but still ok for cruising, volume wise) exhaust system? Came with a Cat mate
Who's right then?A UK 3.2 Carrera won't have had a cat fitted to it as standard, but one was available as an option. Quite a few LHD cars had them fitted when they came over to the UK.
The pre-silencer on the left hand side does look quite like a catalytic converter but it isn't, merely a silencer or muffler if you're from abroad.
1993 was the year which catalytic converters had to be fitted to all UK cars, hence the very late 964 cars had them and all 993's came with them. Once again it was an option on all 964's and many left hand drive 964's had catalytic converters when they came over to the UK. Very few UK owners opted for them though until it became the law.
Regarding 964 cars and their age things went a bit pear shaped in 1990. Up to then cars were going up in price on a daily basis so loads of people ponied up a depo but sadly couldnt follow through. We used to see a lot of later (1992 or 1993) cars which were actually older cars which had been sat around somewhere waiting. Check the VIN or chassis number to confirm exact age (not that it makes a huge difference these days). They were using the letter based dating system then with A being 1980, B - 1981, C - 1982 and so on. You miss out I (the letter i not the number 1) in the run as well as O, Q and U. By the time Z came around they had switched to using numbers so 1 represents 2001.
Hope that helps. I stand to be corrected - it was getting on for 25 years ago! I'm actually not that old either - I just started selling Porsches when I was extremely young

I was mistaken between the UK and Euro cars.
Henry i thought your business was established when they launched the SC in 1977-78?
