Contact lenses, different numbers
Discussion
Hi, Does anyone know what the difference would be in the following sizes please.
After my latest check-up my lens size now is;- 8.6 14.0 +1.50
I used to have an astigmatism but this has been corrected an is now marginal.
Pre astigmatism my lens were 8.6 14.6 +1.50
I don't know what part of my eye this measurement relates to, so is it OK to still use these as I don't want to damage my eyes? (I think I may have answered my own question there).
Thank you.

The 14/14.6 is the diameter of the lens in millimetres, I believe. Functionally it shouldn't make a great deal of difference. The only reason I can think of for having a larger lens would be to ensure that it was stable on the eye in the correct orientation, since toric lenses (the ones for astigmatism) are lop-sided. So that shouldn't make too much of a difference. It may be that you've switched brands and the new, non-toric brand comes in a smaller size as standard.
-edit-
Although thinking about it, the guy with the chart with letters on who gave you the prescription would probably be the best guy to ask about this, rather than a bored bloke on the internet.

Thank you, that makes great sense. DKL said:
I can't think of a lens with a 14.6 diameter. More likely that (if you are taking these from a prescription not a lens box) that someone has misread the 0 for a 6.
I have only a little knowledge of these, but 14.6mm diameter did come up when I googled it.https://www.google.com/#hl=en&output=search&am...
