James Allen - Radio Commentator
Discussion
I just thought I'd post up a couple of thoughts.
James Allen was made for Radio. His commentary this morning was superb. Even in the 50 minute lull, when the race was stopped he kept talking about relevant info and didn't seem to get flustered. He seemed excitable at the right times, especially towards the end and was very good at describing what was happening.
Jaime Alguesari as the co-commentator was very good too. He made some very clever strategy calls and his analysis of the tyre wear was very interesting.
Overall I was very impressed. The only thing I'd like a bit more of is a rundown of who is in what position a bit more regularly.

I agree. I listened to him on Radio 5 Extra for the practise on Friday morning, and thought he was pretty good. Which is amazing when I think how much I detested his TV commentary.
However, it was a bit creepy during qualifying when he they threw down to him in the pits and he started to describe how he had followed Schumacher to the toilets.

Its interesting, as lots of people really rated crofty on the five live sports extra commentary.
now he's doing the skyf1 stuff, I see some people are complaining.
Maybe its harder to do tv commentary because you have to consider that the viewer can see what you're seeing, too?
Good point. I watched Sky's coverage from Malaysia today and was amazed to notice how distracting Croft's commentary was. Brundle could barely get a word in edgeways because Croft is - I suspect - still stuck in the mindset of being a radio commentator, feeling the need to talk constantly. That's fine for radio where the commentator has to, for want of a better phrase, paint pictures for the listener as well as keeping up with what's actually happening. Croft will hopefully realise soon enough that he doesn't need to chatter incessantly as the viewers can see what he's seeing!now he's doing the skyf1 stuff, I see some people are complaining.

Now, for the original topic, James Allen has made a very promising start on Five Live. I was never a hater but I'm pleased to notice that he's found a niche that suits his style.

You will always get people complaining about something, symptom of the internet.now he's doing the skyf1 stuff, I see some people are complaining.

He does some TV work for network 10 in Aus.
Not a major issue but he looks such a scruffy bugger. The worst stubble ever that is patchy and wears a white t shirt under the work shirt with top button undone so you can see it. Looks a complete mess imo.
Does do some good work for them though.

I didn't particularly enjoy his commentary as much I liked. Apart from the start he sounds rather numb with enthusiasm missing.Unfortunately he had his haters and he's responding to it. I just want some enthusiasm back.
I don't like Jaime. He generally says the obvious. Only good point is his strategy spotting.
