I passed my test in 2007, at the age of 22. Got a photocard license.

I've moved house about 4-5 times since then so have dutifully sent off my license each time to have the address changed.

I was idly looking at my photocard the other day and noticed it "expires" in June this year...just 4 and a half years after first obtaining it.

Seems a bit of a joke to have to stump up £20 to renew it when facially i look pretty much the same as 5 odd years ago... whats the reason for needing to renew so soon?

I know rock all about how the DVLA operates so apologies if this is a stupid question.

Must admit I thought it was 10 years before you had to renew a photo licence. Mine is anyway smile

Normally last 10 years. Not sure why you got a renewal so soon.

When did you get your provisional licence?

Yep, I had mine the other day aswell - the only saving grace being that you can do it all online if your passport is within a 5 year limit from today. Was alot easier than taking time out to hunt down a photobooth and then go to post office.

I've never had to enter as much information as that before for anything - I think the only thing the .gov website didn't ask me was whether I like red or brown sauce in a bacon bap.

As above, if you got your provisional at 17 then thats 10 years ago.
