Does anyone know of a trustworthy auto transmission specialist somewhere in/around leeds?

I'm getting to a point with my car (volvo v70, 2002) where I either spend money to cure a small niggle with the 'box or just trade it in. Great car just need an idea of how much it may cost to fix vs repair.

Steve Brear. Know loads of people that have used him to rebuild the Vauxhall M32 6-speed gearboxes, but he's a gearbox repairer/fixer/specialist in general.

Stephen A Brear
Butterbowl Works
Ring Road
Lower Wortley
LS12 5AJ
0113 263 2073
(he's round the back of Chippendale Plant)

Thanks for the recommendations chaps. Makes approaching these places a far less daunting proposition.

This page popped up on a google search for auto gearbox specialists in Leeds. Is Mr Brear still the chap to go for? Trying to find a specialist who can give me a quote on a flush and refill on the FA57 box in my 9-3.

I believe Steve only works on them with the gearbox out of the vehicle. They don't work on vehicles with them in so he's probably not who you want if you only want a gearbox oil change.

Yup.

I'm the OP....ended up taking the Volvo to a chap in Morley who confirmed what I already knew really. If you've got the box out then you're as well to just stick a reconditioned one in its place--approx 1.5-1.8k. Traded it in.

Snce then I had a Toyota Corrolla Verso (spit) with a dodgy manual box. Took it to
Steve Brears and he was really helpful, came out for a spin with me and advised on what needed doing. Trouble is, as per above, he only deals with the 'boxes and you have to get it out of the car for him to work on. He mainly gets work from garages that do this routinely.

I ended up taking it here
http://www.leedstransmissionservices.co.uk/contact

They put a recon box in for cash and saved me a few quid.

Old thread. As said above, you have to take the box to them. They stripped and rebuilt my Toyota box in the Exige in no time at all.

Aeromotive at Birstall are Saab specialists (as well as doing many of my guys TVRs)
tel 01294 422200

The "2 Phils" did my TVR gearbox last summer when 3rd gear disappeared

Excellent work and very reasonable costs

Thanks for the reply and email.

Aeromotive are the chaps I used to check over the car after I bought it, they sorted out my window issues too. It will be booked in there soon for a service, was planning to use them for the gearbox fluid change too but just wanted to see if there was a local specialist who could inspect the oil and see what condition it and the box are in.

I was drooling over the TVR's when I was last there, I think it was BB who first mentioned them on here a fair while back.
