AA Parts and Garage cover - anyone used it?

Hi, a collegue at work told me about AA's parts and garage cover. Seems he's used it to replace a clutches in a Smart car. I just got a quote for my Cerbera and it's coming out at £166 per year. They will pay out up to £500 per claim with a £35 excess.

That seems pretty good to me. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this and if they payout without too much hastle? I was supreised a clutch was covered but he seemed to not have a problem.

I'm thinking it's good insurance and it includes full AA cover as well.

I've got it for £47.00 for the 9 months additional to my standard AA Relay and Homestart on the Tuscan. I think it will be £65 for the year when it comes up for renewal. Luckily not had to use it yet (touches wood quickly!!) but have heard good stories on here about it with hassle free negotiations.

I think you have to call up to get this offer though. In the past I've tried to use the online form and they wouldn't quote for my T350.

It's a pretty good offer if pays for half the cost of a clutch replacement. Will look into again when my insurance / breakdown cover needs renewal.

I used it when I replaced the alternator on my RS6. They paid up with no fuss.

Used it a couple of times... Costs about £65 on top of whatever AA Breakdown options you take, and I got all three cars on it

Towed me all the way to TrackVRoad from down south last time and paid £500 towards head gasket failure. Great value cover if you ask me. Doesn't help for a blown engine, but for that you need a full cover warranty costing £1500/year (which might not pay out anyway), so for that I just save up and each year you got £1500 towards any major engine problems.

I've used it three times - two clutch slaves and once when the T5 ground up fifth gear into little bits. I've always paid £25 excess (ie they pay out £475), maybe it's gone up. Certainly takes the sting out of the bill anyway.

You have to "break down" and call them out, although I have the full AA cover and have had them come to my house on a couple of occasions. I think I pay about £85/year but it goes up every year, unsurprisingly.

Yep, used mine for a clutch and steering rack leaking, both claims were for the max of £500 less admin of £25. I had to call them out to verify the fault but that's not a problem. £475 off the total cost of each bill is nice.

I have had this policy for 10 years now. I have used it a couple of times for clutches/slaves. Not had a need to use it for the last 5 or 6 years though.

Well recommended from me too. Fuel pump on the Chim paid in full, plus £475 towards the Tuscans rebuild after the headgasket let go. They deal directly with most garages and it's well worth it for piece of mind.
Never had to use it if the car breaks down at home but I believe this is also covered.

This thread caught my eye as I was only thinking recently that it would be nice to protect against some of the medium sized bills like clutch, box, rad etc.

Can't seem to find the right details on the net?? They seem to do 3 levels of cover and none of them appear to be the cover we are talking bout here unless I'm missing something??!!

I also get breakdown cover with classicline but then this does sound like good value. My clutch has tipped over the 12k mile mark so its at the back of my mind.

It's called parts and garage bills cover on their website. It pays out £500 and used to be with a £25 excess but I believe this is going up to £35. I took it out online for the Tuscan last year and used it when a clutch was needed. No fuss they just paid Str8Six direct £475. I'll definitely be getting it again this year.

I have just been looking through the T&C’s on this, mainly because i already get breakdown cover through my insurance company (i don’t think its a charged option) and therefore it only makes sense for me to have the basic cover to enable me to have the parts and garage cover.

BUT....with ‘roadside assistance only’ cover, it says the car must be less than 10 years old??

I think maybe i will call them and do it that way to be safe, which is a shame as TopCashBack is offering cashback which would reduce the first years fee, i but i want to ensure i don’t get it wrong...

I have the cover. I think the less than 10 years old needs to be on initial application? I think they also had a less than 100K miles clause as well as well as the usual serviced properly clauses.. I have had the cover for a fair few years and made a couple of claims. All paid up nicely and fairly.

Pretty sure you can get it on cars older than 10 years, but obviously have to pay more premium. I've had it for about 5 years on the Cerb, used it 3 times the first year, but thankfully not since.

One time the clutch went and I nursed the car to Austec, to be told I wouldn't be covered as it was at the garage. Unbelievably half an our later, when taking the car on an assessment, bloody clutch went again. Called out the AA and got recovered. Job jobbed

I've got this on my three vehicles. Had a battery on the cerb and other car no problems.
Here's a little tip for you.....
When your renewal comes round, dont re-join. Eventually they will offer a 20 or 25% discount(cant remember for sure), and that includes a discount on the repair cover thing and the breakdown cover.
