Does anybody play and reccomend it? If so which one? There are so many to choose from!

Cheers!

Yes, not played for a while though.
DoW1 is large scale battles and DoW2 is smaller unit stuff.
The rest are add-ons or DLC

It's on Steam if you have it with Demos for both games.

Really good smile
I bought the pack with original game + all expansions a few years back, for about a tenner IIRC.

DOW1 is one of the best RTS ever. I still play it now, brilliant gruesom fun biggrin Id say you mightbe better off not getting the soulstorm expansions, it kinda spoiled it for me with the stupid flying units.

DOW2 is a pile of st. There is no strategie involved, you just move your couple of units into cover, kill everything in range, and repeat. I was bored stless by it. Its like a super crappy dumbed down version of company of heros, so Id say skip that one.

Get DOW 1, it's a lot like Command and Conquer, albeit with a unit cap.

My only negative is the zoom level. Fully zoomed out you still feel far too close to the units. You can counter this with a mod available on the internet which lets you zoom out much further.

A brilliant RTS and with all the DLC, some serious game time.

Agreed.

Loved DoW1, played it alot.

DoW2 is just poor. Felt like there was little to no strategy to it, and that was limited due to very low troop numbers. Only part I enjoyed of the game was the 'survival' multiplayer co-op.

DoW 1 it is then! I love command and conquer, but fancy a bit of a change. Plus I just found a box of 40k stuff in the attic, and as Im far too skint and cant paint them to save my life playing on the pc should do better for me.

Cheers!

In the Retribution addon you can have troops as well as heroes - at the end of missions you can pick either troop upgrades or hero equipment upgrades. Similar in mission too - requisition/power can be spent on either hero upgrades or more troops. You also get to do the campaign as any of the races (except Necrons), in fact I was glad I bought the game for the Ork in the pirate hat alone!

Horses for courses in terms of DoW 1 vs 2, I prefer having a small amount of decent troops that I can upgrade so DoW2 *just* wins it for me.
