Hi all

A mate in the office is currently going through the arduous task of replacing SWMBO's daily driver. His wife is a Canadian who has been living in blighty for years and as such has an Auto-only entitlement on her licence. She currently drives an Automatic Corsa.

Anyway, she is looking to replace the car with something bigger since the arrival of their little boy has necessitated some more space. She is looking at Focus, Astra, Mazda3 and similar size cars from the VAG group (Golf, LEON, A3 etc).

So, DSG boxes from VAG? Are they classed as an Auto on the log book? Is there a definition anywhere which says what she can drive based on a description on the log book?

Cheers all

I'm pretty sure it simply comes down to the number of pedals.

(but hopefully someone will come along to confirm)

The absence of a clutch pedal is the only criteria used to determine whether you can drive it on an auto licence. DSGs and the like are fine.

yes DSGs are classed as automatic gearboxes because there is no clutch pedal.

2 pedals = auto.
