..with a director of my company and another senior manager. Despite me busting a gut for 6 yrs keeping my company way ahead of competitors and not having staff to assist (until recently) they're restructuring the dept and moving me out and some woman in who will be 'Marketing Oversight Manager' (I am Marketing Manager).

Apparently there will be new opportunities in the business but I love what I do and know it inside and out. Feels like a right fking slap in in the face. I can't blame the woman coming in but I'll be fked if I am going to do the hard work whilst she takes the easy strategic stuff. Seriously (can you tell?) fked off!

Probably a bit of knee jerk reaction I know but if I said "Give me redunadancy" how much do they have to give (if any?).

I know how you feel as I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago, but, the job I moved into is even better than the one I had. thumbup

In answer to your question on redundancy rights, it's here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyA...

Don't make a knee jerk decision, though!

Yeah, I'll hold on and see what happens. Even if there's something new that's ok I think I'll always feel as if I was replaced because I wasn't good enough in other people's eyes when in fact nothing could have been further from the truth.

Checked the redundancy calc...not much! If I did go down this route though I'd get them to offer something decent.

6 years = 6 weeks' salary IIRC.

Best to keep your powder dry and see what they offer. It could be much, much better...

I don't mean to generalise, but I've seen so many of these 'Marketing Manager' Apprentice-type women come and go so quickly, come in promising the world, give it a couple of month, reality kicks in, out the door or they move on.

I'd maybe stick it out, in whatever restructure is offered.

Let me guess - this new woman is old friends with the director and/or senior manager.

Well I don't wnat to knock her too much as she didn't appoint herself but having worked alongside her she's not a patch on my skill, knowledge and experience. If I wrote down here the differences I think you'd fall off your chair wondering WTF my company were doing. Prob is the people making the decisions know feck all about marketing and don't know her that well but she 'talks the talk' even if she can barely 'walk the walk'.

She'll probably be useless but fine because they'll give her a big team and she'll just ride in on the bloody big tidal wave of marketing (all 23 actvities) that I have set up.

Perhaps its all for the best....I should go and apporach our competitors lol!

similar experience to what happened in my company with my friend ( not marketing tho ) and the new manager is useless and still does not understand how the company works and our industry. It is very frustrating having to work with him as my department has to deal with him too.

It's not your company, merely your employer. Killing yourself to make other people wealthy is rarely a good idea.

+ 6 weeks "notice", so 12 weeks salary (of which 6 will be at a maximum of £430 per week) plus any holidays accrued pro-rata in the notice period, plus any compensation required for removal of the likes of critical illness cover, health care, etc..

Fair point, figure of speech that's all. TBH it worked for me in the last few years; I learned so much about the final few things I didn't know that well in marketing that now I am set to go it alone. I’ve got a great marketing related business idea so now may be the time to go for it. I just need to be careful about the finances. My wife was out of work last year which was quite stressful and am keen to avoid that as much as I can.

Even if they'd have said 'Come on down and be Marketing Director' as I’d considered driving in this morning I still had, at the back of my mind, the thought “I really don’t want to be doing this journey into the office any more.”

Same here.

It is frustrating when managers are brought in who do not understand what or why the industry or machinery are about. Its even worse when they are the group MD's mate and swan round like billy big conkers, the biggest customer we have thinks this particular person is a "Quote" - 'Bell end' and goes out of their way not deal with him. Every manager at the place now are long standing friends or acquaintances of the group MD some have knowledge and experience of the industry/equipment but the majority do not, which really does suck.

Its a tough job market out there so unless you have a walk in job somewhere else, you would be better off staying where you are and see what the next 6 months hold, you could be a lot better off from it.

Have you had a grown up chat with your boss to get inside the decision making cycle? Your interpretation may be skewed for the worst; or you're spot on of course! There may be good/innocent reason why this has happened. I'd be really interested to know why you weren't considered for advancement. Was this part of your development plan? Good luck!

So they are taking your role - giving it to some woman - and moving you into another role that you don't want to do? And they are doing all this despite you doing an excellent job?

That sounds very much like constructive dismissal to me and I'd be taking some legal advice.

Its a good point. I have today off so will look into this. TBH at the moment I am 'considering my options' but a decent wedge and I'll be gone.

Sorry to hear that OP.

Good luck. For what it's worth, hopefully your experience and skills should travel with you to whichever company you might go to next. So it hasn't all been in vain.

Sorry to be an optimist among the gloom, but is there any chance they are doing this because they think you can do more/better ?
If not, why do you think you are so good and they don't?
