As above really. I am taking delivery next Monday and just had a silly load of quotes. Cheapest at £1,350 with 8yrs NCD, £1,000 excess, must have tracker etc. 10,000 miles pa just me driving.

Nissan GT-R was £700.

Any ideas where to go for a better deal?

Thanks.

Try confused.com, get the prices for admiral and elephant, then phone them up to see if they can beat the prices. Simples! Admiral and elephant are the same company.

I tried that. Only 1 out of 125 companies quoted and that was £3,900 !!

Try putting your dad on as a named driver (at least if you're under 36) and are you really going to do 10k? 8k would be cheaper. i always find Admiral to be best value for me. I'm 31 with 8 years no claims and sticking one of my parents on usually decreases premiums by 25% or so.

If I was dropping that much cash on car, I'd be looking for value for money for best cover rather than cheapest price to be honest. Id go specialist. Original quote seems reasonable ?

Try Privilege and if you are married, add your wife even if she will not drive it.

Admiral are cheapest because there cover isn't as good. They don't cover any optional equipment so if your car gets nicked they will only replace it with a standard car.......

At laast that was the case three years ago when I asked them to quote on my X5....you have to specify all the optional equipment but they don't cover it. On something like a BMW that's not good.

Not strictly true. Have a look at http://www.elephant.co.uk/policyDocs/EL51%201111%2...

From the latest policy book:
We will not pay
• any modifications unless they form part of the manufacturers standard specification or are optional extras that we have agreed to cover. See also Extra Conditions (endorsement 11)

FFS it's a very expensive car.

Why cover it with a sh t insurer.

Speak to Locktons or AON and get Chubb Masterpeice.

We had a similar quote to you for my wife and myself on a f10 m5 . We're both 34 years of age with full NCB and no convictions or accidents living in the wilds of Herefordshire and if I remember correctly was with Zurich Premium ( or something like that) .

It seems that all the ambulance chasers have pushed up premiums for us all.

Try A-plan in High Wycombe. I have had both my cars with them for the past 7 years - always check their quote against the market and find that for me they have been close enough not to warrant the hassle of changing - plus I have had a good service from them.

I have just changed about 10 days ago from my E90 M3 saloon to F10 M5 and my premium went up by £15.

Can't remember what I am paying but it is in the £600 to £700 range. I am similar vintage to OP but slightly younger tongue out

I have no connection to them.

Well it may not be good on a regular BMW but an M5 has pretty much every option ticked as standard; so unless you're having mega-expensive individual leather and paint you should be OK.

Thanks to most for the helpful guidance. I will be following up the leads in the morning.

I am not sure where I said that I wanted a bad or cheap insurer. I just want a better deal.

I have a number of expensive high performance cars insured via two different brokers and this quote is way higher than any of them. Something doesn't seem right.

I just had my renewal for my 6 month old E92 M3. Had been with Admiral and previously A-plan (who are a decent bunch to be fair). Over £1k which I have never paid on any car ever. Tried confused.com and closed the site down when it looked like the cheapest was £1300. Got a call within about 10 minutes from said website asking me what I thought of the quotes which I was quick to tell him. However it would appear that I was rather hasty as he informed me that Tesco had quoted £640, which on checking my email, they had. Quick call to them and I get asked whether I have a clubcard? I give them the details, new premium £514 :-) I found myself asking more questions than they asked me as I didn't believe what I was hearing.

37, Wife 35, max NCB car garaged and business class 1.

In this case Every Little Helps was actually quite a lot!

After trying Tesco who said "no quote" and two of the other brokers mentioned, I rang the broker who looks after the wife's car insurance. Ended up with Aviva Distinct for £1,100 and £1,500 excess but paid a one of £38.50 to pay £1,000 of the excess.

Not great but I was running out of options.

Now to wait for Monday to enjoy the car.

Thanks for the help.

Have you bought new or one of the demos? Colour?

I am now into week three of ownership - mine was a demo (Silverstone/Silverstone) loaded with far more options than I would have specced on a new car.

Big road trip already - off to the Alps on Friday with the family smile
