MPG and fuel cost per mile

Hi,
I'm keen on knowing what sort of MPG and fuel cost per mile different cars get in the real world. I'm currently driving a B6 Audi 1.8T estate. I use it for commuting and do about 515 mainly motorway miles a week. A full tank of about 60 litres gets me around 450 miles. I worked out my MPG and cost per mile using a brim to brim calculation and here is what I got:
MPG = 34.43
Fuel cost per mile (pence) 18.97p (Unleaded Petrol at 139.9p)
So what do you guys get? Would be good to know over what sort of journey the figure is calculated. I'm particulay keen on knowing what cars with 6 cylinder engines such as the BMW 330ci, and Mondeo ST220 get when doing simular journeys to mine.

That's pretty interesting. I know driving styles have to be considered too but the pence per mile of the BMW diesel isnt't far off my 1.8t. Granted that the 230bhp diesel will be much nicer to driver at the higher speeds on the motorway due to the extra bhp and touqueBrim to Brim seems to be 17ppm for the BMW with is an average mpg of 43mpg

Volvo V50 D5 Manual Average MPG over 4842 miles 46.78 equating to 14p per mile
Porsche 996 C2 Manual Average MPG over 2251 miles 28.21 equating to 23p per mile (Super Unleaded)
R56 Mini Cooper S Average 44.15 MPG over 1519 miles equating to 14p per mile (Super Unleaded)
Audi A2 TDI Average MPG 63.21 over 3783 miles equating to 10p per mile

I use www.fuelly.com to track mine.
Peugeot 306 HDi = 50.7 mpg average over 17809 miles, or 12.3p/mile
Eunos Roadster (MX-5) 1.6 = 34.0 mpg average over 4793 miles, or 17.5p/mile
Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi = 35.1 mpg average over 1804 miles, or 17.8p/mile
The slight discrepancy between the Eunos and 205 costs per mile is down to the fact that the 205 needs SUL and that the Eunos mileage was last year when fuel was slightly cheaper since it isn't coming out of winter storage until next month.
Above figures prove that older cars can be perfectly economical to run though compared to newer metal, especially when you factor in that there is zero depreciation on the above (indeed, 205's are now appreciating in value if anything!)

BMW 328i Just normal driving, mixture of town and faster 'A' roads with the odd trip to 5,000rpm+ but excluding track days.
29 - 33mpg (depending on weather/if the kids are at school) = pretty much bang on 20p/mile
I would hope an E46 330i would be slightly better.

Remember your comparing c42mpg with c35mpg and that the 35mpg is c6% cheaper. Your also comparing a manual to an auto the manual version of mine would add on an extra 5mpg
My average speed is well over 50mph
I also have climate on constantly heated seats a lot
But we are also comparing a 180bhp car v a 231bhp car.
Also remember the newest 330d averages 49.5mpg.... So 20% more efficient which would mean 3.4p less per ltr or 13.3ppm. Like for like.

True. Out of interest, is that an e46 330d or the newer e90? I often search the classfieds for a 330d sport in manual but most of them seem to be autos. Your also comparing a manual to an auto the manual version of mine would add on an extra 5mpg

E46 330d has two engines in its lifetime the 2.9 184bhp 5 speed only and then the 3.0ltr 204bhp 6speedE90 330d has two engines the 231bhp and the 245bhp - however there is the 231bhp non efficient dynamics and then 231bhp Efficient dynamics, the 245bhp is only efficient dynamics.
The one which does c50mpg is the 245bhp E90.
The new 8 speed auto lowers revs @70mph from 1,750rpm to 1,250rpm (or even 1,100rpm) this causes the 530d to step up from 38mpg in the E60 up to 53mpg combined.... given there is always a 5mpg benefit of the 3 series over the 5 series the MPG of the new 330d 8 speed auto could seriously top a combined 58mpg....
Note the 5 series is an a realistic value - why mega gearing reduced revs = great.
Force the engineers to find a solution and they deliver - they are quicker too plus more economical... win win.
I use aCar on Android. I have similar parameters to the OP, but with a very different car.
Average fill up is 60 litres using V Power unleaded. I drive 110 miles a day (~96 on motorways) with no use on the weekends and I'm currently bang on 20ppm with an average of 31.95mpg
I consistently get 450 miles from a tank by taking it easy. If I cane it (and I mean cane it) I can get down to about 280 - 300 from a tank.
The car is a 2000 Alpina B3 3.3 Coupe with Switchtronic.

Now this is really interesting! My Audi is 190bhp and feels a bit gutless. The figures you're getting from a 3.3 make me think that I could probably get similar fuel running costs from a nice 3.0L petrol to what I get from my 1.8t driving generally at 70mph on the motorwayAverage fill up is 60 litres using V Power unleaded.
