Just bough some BMW branded wheel cleaner. It is about £8.95 for 500 ml.

It smells quite pungent almost citrus like and when you spray it on it is a purple colour. Description states it is acid free.

Can anyobe identify an alternative brand (Cheaper) that is the same from the description? Bilberry perhaps?

Is that price range maybe some Wolfs Deironizer? Very highly rated and affective stuff:

Fallback option would be Bilberry, hate it or love it it is effective and safe to use:

these are both 1Litre for a similar price

I once read that it is made by R222 (used to be P21S IIRC). I bought 5l of Bilberry but only use it once or twice a year now - try some wheel sealant such as Planet Polish. In spring time I get my wheels as clean as I can using Iron-X and Bilberry (if required) and then apply wheel sealant. Through spring and summer I use nothing other than shampoo and then give them a good clean and seal again before the onset of winter.

I've used P21s and recall that was quite different. I'm guessing Bilberry is the closest so I will give that a try once the BMW branded stuff runs out.

I do the polish thing on my Garage Queen 993 and then only use car shampoo and water to clean the wheels. However, this cleaner is for my daily driver. I guess I could do the same with my daily driver.

Thanks everyone.

R222 (P21) do have 2 different products - a liquid (green IIRC) and a gel (red I think) - it was on Bmwland where I read that is what the BMW wheel cleaner actually is (or am I getting confused with the Porsche branded wheel cleaner...)

Looks like Bilt Hamber are about to launch their wheel cleaner (after talking about it for years!) - sounds like it does the work of Iron-X as well so might be worth a try. Otherwise possibly get some Iron X/ brake duster to use alongside your BMW wheel cleaner as I found it really did leave my wheels feeling very smooth ready to apply some sealant.

you may be right.

I just checked the BMW product again. It's a clear thick liquid that changes colour to a purple/red when it reacts with the brake dust.

Does that help identify it?

Bilt Hamber auto-wheel is out now: http://www.bilthamber.com/pro-introduction.php?cna.... Which is typical, just as I stock up on Very Cherry. When did that ever stop me before though biggrin

Auto-wheel looks to be a little too good for day to day cleaning duties though, especially if the wheels are protected. I'd be inclined to use it when deposits are starting to get a bit stubborn, in place of an additional iron-x/purple rain treatment.

P21S (red) seems to be the Porsche branded wheel cleaner. Found a few people suggesting Sonax manufacture the BMW cleaning products - they certainly do make a 'bleeding' wheel cleaner - sounds like they make a couple of different wheel cleaners though...
