Scalextric-in-a-917 is a whole lot of wonderful

Like Transformers, only with slot car tracks instead of aliens...

If there's one thing that's guaranteed to get us running around like over-excited children after too many E numbers it's Scalextric sets. Or, to be more accurate and less brand-dependent, slot car sets.

And this is without a doubt the coolest slot car track ever, created by US company Slot Mods. "So where's your new Scalextric set?" a friend might ask. "Oh, it's inside my Porsche 917..." you reply nonchalantly, lifting up the body of your full-size Porsche 917 rep to reveal a 1:32-scale wooden slot car track, complete with handmade period ads, aluminium Armco and everything.

The 917 itself, meanwhile, rolling aluminium three-piece centre-lock wheels in the original style and working lights front and rear. We have only three words to say on this: Best. Toy. Ever.

There's no word on the price, as each Slot Mods track is tailored to each customer, but you can be fairly certain it isn't going to be cheap...

Good job that it isn't Merc. shaped, or those crushingly boring German lawyers would be 'round before you can say schadenfreude.

I wonder if you can have any other cars if you didnt want a 917 ?. I like the track in the video but i love the name of it even more. "The slag raceway". Sounds like the gumball rally set in Benidorm.

I beg to differ...

I'd prefer a real 917 as a toy smile

Can't be too hard to recreate this with a bit of graft. Buy a knackered shell, cut in half, gut, strengthen, build....

Wow, maybe it is difficult :|

It must just be me that thought "Is that it?" when I played Scalextric as a kid.

Sub-zero and letter is in to Santa. Would look fantastic in the garage next to your real car even if you never opened it up!
