Having got a tad bored of CFS2 on pc I want a another proper, authentic and realistic ww2 flying sim, but this time I want it on PS3.

I cant decide though - the much proven, liked, well recieved but getting-on-a-bit IL2-Birds of Prey, or do I go out on a limb for the slightly better graphics of the new but unproven Birds of Steel?

ooh, interesting - from that article it appears to be made by the same people as IL2 - if I'd realised this then it would have been a no-brainer straight away. I wonder why they havent put the IL2 name to this sequel like all the others?

There's a demo out on the Xbox at the moment - I whacked it up to simulator difficulty straight away and was pleasantly surprised to be unable to land with the wind behind me.

is there a PS3 demo as well or has microsoft shoved a bundle of grubby money in the direction of the developers for exclusivity?

I knew literally nothing about this – thanks very much for bringing it up! I quite liked the version of IL2 that came out on the 360. Shame the MP never ever worked, and that you never had to take off or land.

It's pretty realistic - I haven't actually managed a proper landing without bouncing half way down the runway and destroying the propeller. smile

If it's any more realistic than it was on the NES 20 years ago I will be upset. wink

OK what the actual fk?

According to this, there should be a PS3 demo:
http://playstationlifestyle.net/2012/03/19/playsta...

but whilst the other 2 mentioned demos are on the store, the Birds of Steel one isnt?

Why would they take it down that soon? rage

Definate purchase for me, I've played the demo to death and I'm amazed how well this works, the flight model feels excellent and sheer amount there is to do in the finished game with the mission editor and multiplayer will make it a keeper.

I need to find a solution to panning around the cockpit whilst using the flight controls but other than that this is clearly a labour of love that is the closest you can get to IL2 1946 on a console.

I've just downloaded and had a go on the demo for Birds of Steel and I'm surprised by how good it is!.

Considering I don't really play aircraft games and don't really know much about them it's had me hooked! The only problem is the fact that my aeroplane seems to fall out of the sky randomly when I set it on simulation.

I need more practice hehe.

That is a problem - the sim controls seem to be designed for a proper yoke, and so when you've got all the travel in 5mm on the joypad it's difficult to modulate the input. Taking off from the carrier in the Spitfire is fun though - shame you only have a few minutes to sightsee around (a really quite accurate) Malta.

Has anyone got Birds of Steel yet? I'm tempted to get it on the Xbox but want to know if it's got any longevity…

Mine has just come this morning.

I've only played an hour but I'm enjoying it so far.

I'll let you know after I've played it for a bit longer.

IL2 Cliff of Dover for PC is just a fiver on Game right now. I heard it has problems but it just got another big patch so worth a punt.
