I've got this list of filters which fit our pre-cat cars because they also fit my Land Rover so I'm always on the look out for them.

Cross Reference Information Exact Details
Alco: SP838
Crosland: Z1159
Coopers: 2149
Fram: PH5443
Mahle: OC261
Mann: W930/20
Motaquip: VFL378
Purolator: L17067
WIX: WL7117

I've used Crosland, Coopers, Fram and Mahle on one or other of the cars without any issues.

Thanks, that's really useful. My local motor factors does Fram filters so will go with one of those.

I've just put one of these on the pre-cat. It won't quite fit on the 500. http://www.landroverfilters.co.uk/index.html

I have used the Fram and Coopers as above in my Pre-Cat. I recognised the filters because they are the same as my Land Rover (as Barreti rightly states). Bought my last stock of Coppers from one of the man Land Rover online outlets, paid £30 delivered for a pack of 10, thought that a great deal. Look around online using the above type numbers. All the best Pete

Well you can add a Bosch P4014 to the list. Fitted and working fine, £5.70 from Euro Car Parts.

I note the comments about the hi-tech glass fibre filters, but regular oil changes, 2000 mile or at least annually in the Griff, and 3000 in my Land Rover, using the standard Fram or Coopers filters there have been no problems for me. My land Rover has now done 110,000 miles and the engine is still clean and running sweetly, even though it has some demanding work at times. With the Griff there is no excuse not to change oil & filter very regularly even if the annual mileage is low. What price a few litres of oil and a filter! Just my comments guys from experience. regards, Pete

K&N do decent oil filters for the V8 for around £10. They are physically much larger then the stock units that should be good for flow, and seem well made. Its important to fill the canaster with as much oil as you can before fitting so the oil pump does not have to fill it before the oil pressure comes up, as this can be some time with a big filter. Im not sure if the TVR has any cross members in the way however to prevent a larger filter being fitted (?). Plenty on Ebay.

I use them on my 4.0 litre serp engined Chimaera without issue.

It's tight, but they do fit, the trick is to slide it in at the right angle while turning slightly (not easy when it's full of oil).

Just when you think it wont go in, it levels up on the thread and winds on a treat, I'm on my third one now and have never had any cross threading issues.

The filter is basically Cummins Fleet Guard technology used extensively over in the States on extreme high mileage diesel haulage vehicles that are particularly hard on their oil and need first class filtration to cover demanding extended service periods.

In addition to the significantly superior filtration media there are a number of other advantages to this filter like a better quality bypass valve, it's physical size alone gives better filtration & oil cooling performance.

In my opinion a Cummins Fleet Guard glass media oil filter will knock any paper element filter into a cocked hat.

The guy selling them (Dave Brown) is very honest and knowledgeable, OK so it's twice the price of a paper element filter, but because it filters better and is less prone to clog you could argue it only needs changing every other oil change.

I still change mine every 3000 miles & use Millers CSS 20w60 semi-synth, although I just scored 10 litres of Millers CFS 15w60 fully synth off EBay for £70.00 delivered, so I may run 6000 mls to the next service this time.

Anyway just to be 100% clear, the "V8F 8990" filter definitely fits my serp Chimaera, & well worth the £18.75 in my opinion.

It was tight on the SERP so I may give it a go without the oil in next time to see if I can get it on.
