Afternoon all,

Whilst doing some work on the Caterham, I stripped off the grill and mesh. Was looking a bit tired so gave a wire brush and a couple of coats of primer.

Now, I quite like the idea of a satin black mesh and yellow '7' - but what yellow do you think I need? Not looking for a perfect match, but I'd like it to be close otherwise it might look a bit rubbish.

Any ideas?

Hi Matt,
Personally I would go for a fluorescent yellow like this one here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fluorescent-Neon-YELLOW-...

I think trying for a close match would look a bit naff. Either an exact match or a contrast works best.
Just my opinion of course thumbup

Oh agree, it's either a close match or a contrast - I only meant 'not perfect' as in I don't need the exact paint code or anything, just wondered if someone might recognised the yellow Caterham used on my car and could suggest the appropriate Halfords spray can which best matches up.

Thanks for the link, not 100% sure my car is that bright though, more of a 'burnt yellow' I reckon.

Matt,
Your car looks very much like Caterham yellow from the picture?

I took mine to a paint maker/mixer who made me up some on the spot.
I had a choice of touch up pencil, spray can or ordinary can.

May be worth asking a local body shop where they get their paint made.

It's always hard to tell from photos, but that looks like Lotus Norfolk Mustard to me - sImilar age car to mine (few years younger) and mine was originally that colour. It's a touch more orangey than Caterham yellow and IMO the best yellow that exists for any car. Porsche and Ferrari yellows, for example, often look insipid.

As you've retained chrome headlamps etc, why not take the 7 motif back to metal and polish it? Or spray it chrome...I wouldn't do the fluoro thing as that will look odd without the rest of the car that colour (which mine is now smile). And yellow probably wouldn't look right either unless you changed all the chrome to black.

Bit lazy of me, but the photo of the car is actually as I bought it - it now has the smaller lights in black and the black windscreen surround.

I've wire brushed off the debris and flakes of rust, given it a rub down and primed it. Then painted the mesh grill satin black and if I knew the correct yellow was going to paint just the 7 and shield the same as the body colour. But, I've sort of bottled that idea - if the yellows don't match it might not look great.

So decided to paint the 7 and shield in a dark grey colour - so pretty much looks like how it started in the original photo up hehe

My Caterham is Mango yellow which would look ok on your grill, as it's quite bright

Someone mentioned that it's a standard Citroen Saxo colour from a few years ago
