in my late 20s and early 30s, I used to think Imprezas and EVOs and other Banzai Jap cars were the coolest things going. Now, quite a few years later, when they have been mostly bought up by the boy racer brigade and come with dustbin sized exhausts, dump valves etc and go around harrassing other motorists I really really dont like them! I know its the driver, not the car, but most modified jap stuff really turns me off these days. Anyone else got any cars that they've turned against, in this way!

Fiesta RS Turbo.

for EXACTLY the same reasons! All you seem to see of them are massive, stupidly loud exhausts, stupidly loud dump valves, stupidly large "cossie" wheels and very poorly lowered or "slammmmmmed bruv".

I havent seen a Fiesta RS for years!

The early meganes, yellow with the light covers... I loved them when I was a kid, now I look back on it and shudder.

Maxy Powery type cars. In my late teens / early 20's I loved them! Used to be a regular 'croozer' but now I'm seriously not a fan. I understand why people go through the phase and don't hold it against them but I do find it quite cringe worthy now.

Nissan GTIR Pulsar.

Gone the same way as early Subaru's and driven by idiots.

Mind you, if I came across a clean one with front mount intercooler (short pipe work please), quaiffe gearbox, Whiteline handling kit, de-grilled and de-spoilered, bucket seats, hybrid turbo, Forged internals and 400bhp I'd buy it. smile

In my late teens I was really into the idea of "grip" and electronic assistance, and would spend hours speccing 4wd Audi's on configuration websites. Now I couldn't think of anything more dull. I also used to hate American muscle because of the whole "can't handle corners" thing. Now I understand the noise & theatre.

I think every quick semi "attainable" car becomes chav territory once it dips under about £10k. I always thought my mk4 R32 Golf was pretty classy but I usually see them being abused as chaviots now.

Impreza has definitely dropped in my opinion yet strangely the later (past 6) Evos have risen.

Also any car that becomes a favourite - older Landcruisers, Shoguns, etc.

VW Golf MK4

Always wanted a MK4 golf. After months of saving I got myself a nice and tidy PD150. Absolutely loved the car, changed the wheels and various other parts but never quite got it looking how I wanted it.

Now I've seen the light and can see 100's of ways better to burn my cash. I really struggle to see what it was that I loved so much about the MK4 all that time ago.

I agree with this EXCEPT for the R32. VW worked some magic on that car and made it handle pretty well and sound great. It looked nice too. I tested a 150PD and could not believe it was from the same base car. It was complete ste. Non R32 mk4s simply have one of the worst chassis ever put in ANY mainstream car. Apart from the early Vectra. That was very bad indeed.

Same here. They just looked bloated to me now and appear to be driven mostly by complete thug muppets.

Dimma kitted Pug 205 GTI's.

15 odd years ago, I thought they were the nuts.

Now....what WAS I thinking??? But I guess back in the day they were sort of cool. Now though, just look like a cartoon car. Not to mention all that extra weight the kit adds! All show and no go...

I do think late 80s early 90s had a certain acceptance to the girth like dimmas, mattig Astra/calibra and warrior kit mk3/4 escorts.
