On a more practical (?) note, I always wanted to make a jet engine. Suppose that bolting a small combustor can and tank of propane/butane to the exhaust inlet flange, ducting air from the compressor turbine to the combustor, and hooking a high rpm starter motor to the shaft would sustain rotation? Don't know if ours has enough boost to sustain rotation. The compressor section of an aero or industrial engine produces a heck of a lot more boost!

I've worked on development teams for quite a few utility-scale gas tubine generator projects over the years ranging from 20 to 1,000 megawatts. Some of them aeroderivatives and others indrustiral frame units. Pretty cool technology in those buggers ... has always fascinated me. My brother-in-law used to work for Garratt Air Research in Phoenix, Arizona. As you're aware, Air Research made some of our turbo units. Saw a picture on this forum just the other day with the Air Research name on it. Mine just say Garrett. In the 70's Air Research made small gas turbines for mobile applications, maybe they still do.
A toy turbine in the garage would be great fun for an hour or two. Maybe will try it someday with a load to avoid over-reving. Then back into the Noble, where the fun is more sustainable.
