My muffler is really close to my engine cover

How close is too close? I have the factory supplied foil covered insulation glued on. I also have the exhaust ceramic coated. My motor is dead level when compared to the chassis cross members but my right hand exhaust points up slightly and the left down.

I'm tempted to try and bend it a little bit

Are you referring to just the tail pipe where it sticks through the grill?
If so then yes you just lean on it till it sits where you want it. A guarantee it will move again but perhaps not even where it is now.

You need to file the holes on the manifold to get the exhaust level, this will bring silencer away from the body.

My right silencer also looks up slightly.
I tried to straighten it but stainless is just about impossible to bend.
I might leave it to the factory to do when it goes up for it's sva in the next few weeks.

Eclipsar, elongating the holes on the stainless manifold? I'll look into that. Cheers

I did elongate the holes in my manifold, but to match the header to the head and gasket as closely as possible.

The part that is concerning for me is the upper rear of the right silencer. I'm not using the grills so there is loads of room at the exhaust tip.

If it isn't possible to bend the header slightly: 1)alternate silencer that is smaller/shorter, 2)cut and reweld the inlet for the factory silencer.

How close are your silencers to your engine covers?

Hi Ken,
Unfortunately, I do not have the GTR bodywork or the the latest version of the exhaust system. To me, it sounds like the headers are angled upwards on one side and down on the other. If you elongate the holes, then you may slightly hinder the flow out the exhaust ports into the headers. You might want to make a little template to find out if its a significant concern. Probably not. Personally, I would much rather pursue the idea of heating up the headers with a welding torch and bending them down slightly. However, you've coated your exhaust so that may not be an option. Are the muffler/silencer mounting brackets straight? Could this be causing your trouble? Wish I were there to give you a hand, but vacations are becoming more scarce for me these days. You'll sort through it. Keep us posted.

p.s.On my sports, the mufflers are also pretty close to the bodywork. Glad I don't run cats! You'll be amazed how effective the foil insulation can be. One other area to insulate are the removable chassis braces running to the rear roll hoop. These get really hot if you don't.

You should be able to get a finger between the body and the silencer, my right hand silencer was touching the canopy, as it was angled up by the manifold, if you put a level on the manifold you can see it pointing up, you will have to file some of the holes to get it level. Reaming the holes out with a drill was easier than filling.
