As it says, I have three broken ribs. Right hand side, numbers two, three and four going up, one has two fractures. I know it's a bit of a slow process, but I really need to get some meaningful sleep. Does anyone have suggestions? I tried holding a pillow to that side which only seemed to emphasise the pain.
I don't use any medicines so that isn't an option.

Sympathies OP, doesn't sound fun but you may have uncovered another requirement to be a company director on PH...

I survived on as much Ibuprofen as I was allowed to take.
If you don't like analgesics (why on earth not), I suggest a big dose of manning up.

Well, as I see it you have two options
1) Painkillers
2) Suffer

Your call.

Its not like it will poison or kill you, Ive been on some pretty strong painkillers for over a year now and Im still going strong.

medication only helps you and does you good, god Ive been on medication most of my life and they have only done me good.

1) Alcohol - enough to get you so pissed that you don't care that it hurts.
2) Meditation - so you think that it hurts less than it does
3) lots of padding - so it doesn't actually hurt as much when you move.

Bust ribs are a real pain (pun intended).

There's not much you can do apart from take Ibuprofen and get on with it.

Don't laugh, don't sneeze, don't do anything else suddenly and it will get less painful when it gets less painful!

One thing I've been told is that you still need to make sure you breath as deeply as you can - even if it is uncomfortable. Breathing very shallow for a long period can lead to too much moisture collecting in the lungs.

Out of curiosity, how did you do it? I've cracked a few down the years. The worst probably being at the beginning of a stint at a 24hr endurance kart race when I was T-boned into tyres by a back marker. I got through that stint by pumping my lungs up and holding my breath every left-hander with the help of adrenaline. 3hrs later and going in for the next stint was not much fun I can tell you. I didn't tell anyone as I didn't want to let the lads down but I was in bits by the end.

Well, so far as medicines go, I just took a decision many years ago to not take any. I figures we put enough chemicals in ourselves without adding more. My choice, don't care what anyone thinks of that.
Grumbledoak seems to have it, Stackmonkey would normally have good advice, but I tried the padding route and it just didn't hep at all. Don't get hayfever but Mrs wijit has just got a cold so she can sleep in the shed!
Asterix maks some good points, may I just suggest that if any of you have similar just now, then going to watch "Monkee Business" is not a great idea!
The way it happened is simply too stupid to put here, my own fault and I should know better, but I do these things so sod it, you're dead for far too long to worry now!
Cheers guys, some good advice there, the candles I'll give a miss though.

I find Johnathon Ross a good anti-dote to that!

Waaaahahahahaha, the amount of chemicals you eat in every food type that passes your lips makes a mockery of the principle behind you not taking drugs.

Wait until you get some sort of infection on something, ear ache, whatever, and it gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger.... hehe

Okay well i think you should know that you're either an idiot or ignorant of the safety tests every drug for human use has to go through. Good luck though.

I broke ribs in a motorcycle accident. For a while afterwards I could only sleep, sporadically, sitting up with pillows all around to keep me in position.
