I'm posting this both here and in the South West section because I have ny concerns about some possibly draconian restrictions that Wiltshire Council intend to put on dogs in the county.

One particular park, for example, which currently has a "dog free" zone at the bottom and a place where people can exercise their dogs at the top, is to become "dogs on lead only" park, with a fine of up to £1000 if dog owners don't comply.

We all have our own views on dogs (and incidentally, I am not a dog owner although I am an ex-owner) but I felt it best to give this matter as wide a coverage as possible.

The full proposals are here: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council/consultations/...

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily although in Wilts I am under Swindon Council who seem fairly relaxed about it.

From experience people seem to ignore signs like this anyway. Walking my dog around Upton Park near Poole and I seemed to be the only person with my dog on a lead despite warning signs all over the place.

I'm in wilts. It's all farm land and byways / bridle ways. Why would you walk your dogs where there are people with kids etc anyway? Where I walk mine everyday I can see a clear half mile or so in every direction so my 4 dogs can just run riot without any issues and if I see a speck of a person in the distance or some horse riders I can get them all back under control and on lead before they are anywhere close. Seems odd to walk dogs in a park in such a rural county.

Not all of it is farm land and bridleways. http://www.intelligencenetwork.org.uk/population-a...

Salisbury community area pop. 41,500
Chippenham community area pop 44,500
Trowbridge community area 41,700
Westbury community area 18,300
Ludgershall/ Tidworth 17,500

To name but a few (all taken from that website's links)

The park I have in mind has a woman in a wheelchair with a collie who needs more exercise than she can give it on a lead, and an old bloke with an exceptionally well-behaved little dog that is never on a lead. I can't really see either of them going a couple of miles out of town to find a footpath or bridleway, especially the woman in the wheelchair wink

Criminalising the disabled is not, I suspect, the intention of the legislation

Now, if only the children could be put on leads and the Litter the other feckers in the park have dumped over this last week could only be policed as well !
For me ( and missus ,who's a TEESIDE Exile) ,it's not the kids. Not with my little lad -he loves kids.
But in parks ,what do we have .

1) Large amounts of picnic litter .Food left in plastic wrappers -a magnet for dogs, till they gulp down the plastic.
2) Beer cans/ boxes littering the area.
3) Beer bottles smashed on paths/grass area by mindless morons
4) Spirit bottles smashed on paths by mindless morons.

1) is a danger to our dogs.
2) ,is more unsightly than anything else .
3) & 4) are a danger to dogs & kids. Fortunately dogs seem to have a sense to avoid this problem. But will this problem be left to occur until some little kid trips whilst running on a path and gets a facial wound. Or some little kid in sandals gets a serious foot wound in a grassy area ,in a place where it should not occur.
All our local council Environment Health Councillor is concerned with ( according to the papers) is dog fouling. No mention of person fouling /causing an anti social problem . or even cat fouling . Strange ,that though cats carry the same Toxicaria problem ( possibly more so ,as dogs are in more of a controlled environment) , dogs are classed as the NO1 criminal .

Moreover, the types who would obey the orders are more than likely not the irresponsible types that are fking the job for everyone else.

Welcome to Great Britain ...............
We've got the best car parks- e.g M1/M6/M25 . And the biggest litter areas -our town parks. We don't need to control littering in the parks ,as we've sold off the maintenance of them to private companies. So if the parks get clogged up with litter -so what,( don't cost us any more) as long as next day the parks are tidied up.Because, just maybe, the BRITAIN in Bloom judges might come in unannounced.
Dog owners- they take their chances. We'll get most glass off the paths, but we don't go into the bushes. We know most parks are alcohol restrictive zones, but have we got the police to enforce that .
Have we got the Plastics to enforce the cycling zones( something that we were told they were designed for) .
To both - hahahahahahahaha
