Tax for rusty cars

I read in this months edition on PPC that the government are considering imposing a tax on 'rusty cars'.
This will apply to all cars pre-2001. If you are unfortunate enough to own an Italian car built between '71 and '85 you could be in for a £1000 per year premium for owning such a beast.

Fuel economy is now becoming less of an issue and raising revenue is the focus. The idea is to make as much money from a vehicle before it hits the scrap yard.

At least they are being open and honest by telling us they're really only interested in ripping us off by whatever means they choose.

Good reason to look after your car then. Always annoys me seeing rusty cars.

No such car exists. An Italian car that old that's still roadworthy and not rusted away? I don't think it's possible.
