Alfa 156 1.8 engine
Discussion
Can anyone advise me where i might be able to get a 1.8 twin spark engine from (not Alfa thanks) Its a 2001 series 32205 but the earlier engines were 32201 series i am told. Anybody know the difference?
Alfa have refused the warranty claim saying "neglect" but it was a con rod that went through the block!!!!!!at 42000 miles but thats life i guess

long story but i have bought it cheap from my company as it was my bosses car and it was looked after and serviced within the dealer timescales and mileage. It was doing some long motorway runs 700 miles in 2 dats etc and started to use some oil was checked prior to leaving and the warning light did come on during the trip home, he stopped and topped up over 1 1/2 litres. Booked it to be checked and they were going to get approval from Alfa for some work done in the mean time a con rod went through the block and Alfa are refusing to pay due to neglect as he had told them that the oil light had came on!!!!!!!!! nice one Alfa. It only had a few £ to depreciate so they sold it to me cheap. Hence i an looking for an engine
Once the oil light comes on, it's game over so. It's not an early warning system!! So that's that I'm afraid.
You could drop this chap an email - he's always breaking 156's:

I understand what you are saying about that its almost terminal if the oil light comes on etc but there must be also a major problem for it to use all that oil so quickly but catch 22 prove what was causing the oil consumption now that there are bits of engine all over the M1 etc.
Anyway thanks for that link i will see if he can help me.

This doesn't help your engine search I'm afraid, but 156s all have a known tendency to need oil, and engine failures are almost always due to them running low & suffering crankshaft damage. I'd guess that your car was low on oil before the terminal failure. But in general, they're a great car if looked after. Good luck with the search.
