Filled up our three cars and ten cans yesterday and got chatting to a chappie who was filling loads of cans in the back of his Hilus.

He told me he'd bought an ex central heating oil tank and installed it in his garden and so far had got 800 litres of petrol in it and was aiming for 2,000. Asked him if he thought it was legal and he got all huffy and asked me what that had to do with anything.

Wish I'd followed him home and found out where he lives though

What is the point of panicking. The unions have to give 7 days notice before they can legally strike. There is no sign of that notice yet. Say they give the notice next Monday that's still 10 days or so from today before they can strike. By then all your jerry cans a and three cars will need filling up during the strikes, when there are hardly any tankers on the road.

At the moment the drivers are on there normal hours filling the fuel stations. There is no need to panic.

Bet he will be selling it if there is shortages for some stupid price, which there won't be.

Be a shame if someone was to drop a match into the tank

2k litres is about 13k miles @ 30mpg.

Surely the fuel would 'go off' before then, or is that an urban legend?
Leave it long enough and he will need a spade to dig it out when it turns to jelly.

Already had this discussion today, all it creates is instant revenue!
People won't use more fuel because of this, all they are doing is changing how they buy it. If anything they will probably have an overall reduction of revenue if people start to car share and stop making unecessary journeys.
The government are just trying to turn the public against the tanker drivers and hopefully stop the strike, not that i agree with that.

it's crazy isn't it!

i nipped out this afternoon and needed petrol but seeing the queue that was going down the road and thought sod it i'll chance it with the fuel light....if people actually paid attention they'd see that there isn't going to be a strike for at least a week.

Never mind, lets not let common sense get in the way of headlines and un-needed panic!
