car is a track only caterfield running toyo r888's. going mostly clockwise the lefts have worn noticeably more than the rights. i asked a tyre shop to change the tyres over from left to right, but on collecting it earlier [just as they were closing] all they've done is swap the wheels so the tyres are the wrong way round.

on a dry track [ambients will be 30ish tomorrow morning] will this be ok? it's on a trailer in a multistorey so rather a lot of effort to go change them over now.

With no scientific backup for this, I would think they will be fine, you still have the same amount of rubber on the road.

In the wet though I suspect their ability to shift the water out of the way would be much worse.

I hope they didn't charge you for swopping them over!

Eidt, this isn't another early April fool is it whistle

No, they're directional for a reason, fitted the wrong way round will probably result in vibrations.

If already worn (badly) for a short while maybe

They are round FFS - fitted and balanced it will make no difference at all

I've run directional and handed tyres (left side/right side) the wrong way on track days as my track car (or my driving style) is heavy on front tyre edges - no probs at all

how so if the tyre is balanced?

directional for water dispersement non? i have seen 5 mins of rain in 11mths here, no danger of it occurring tomorrow!

just read on tinternet that caterham racers run the fronts the wrong way round to aid braking performance.

my own non scientific reasoning is that they'll be reet. and no, i didn't pay.

They are directional to remove water from the area between the tyre and the road. You risk aquaplaning.. but not at the moment obvs.

Probably ok in the dry but they'll kill you in the wet. Backward V's trap water under the tyre and you aquaplane like you're on slicks.

My experience is different to yours, a friend bought a car that had a vibration, until the directional tyre were fitted to run in the correct direction........................

Suck it and see OP, report back and let us know.

I'd suggest fitting snow tyres immediately.

was tongue in cheek, but the advice given was taken as read. i am leaving them. i couldn't think why they'd be a problem but is good to have it confirmed.

Should be. Many people run CR500s backward on the front of a Caterham. R888s too. Just hope it doesn't rain smile
