... and am getting a bike instead of a new car. Now, I've only just turned 20, so serious machinery is going to have to wait a year until I can do a direct access course. In the mean time, I'd like a learner legal 50 or 125cc machine, preferably dirt cheap, and perferably a 'proper' bike, i.e with gears and things, not a little twist and go moped. Cheaper the better. Any suggestions?
I passed my test last may and I had a KLR250 waiting for me. I had a few blast on my mate 125 and to be honest it was a bit boring and not enough power or noise. So I opted for a 250 which gives you a lot of power considering and with the KLR you just stick a dep system on and pow you get lots of grownl too.
My ins was only 240 a year for the 250 so I would suggest that route pal.

Guy in my work just came in with a new 125 today. He had never driven a bike before and went out and bought the bike and did the cbt on the same day.
He got a nice looking little bike made in japan or china i think.
I had a shot of it and my god it was weird. The engine sounded really odd, kinda like it was electric??!!
Not sure what it was called but it was almost the same hight as my 600 and looked pretty neat but there was absultly no power atall. You have to really gun at it to make it move and then the revs just dont sound right.
I drove an Kawasaki AR125 for a while there and it was much more responsive and felt more like a big bike, and IMO it looked not to bad, also very cheap

This def did the trick for me, you can throw it about as its light but its not so light that you dont feal the bike.
I would recomend one of these for a cheap bike.
