Manchester - Sheffield - Manchester
Discussion
So I had an afternoon off last tuesday and was bored at home. So made a spur of a moment decision to take this route on. Started from Manc city centre, went to Sheffield via A628 & A616, then came back via A57 snake pass...
The climb on the A57 on the way back absolutely destroyed me! Got through it in the end though thankfully.
Anyone on here did a similar route before? Was just wondering how this compares to the King of the Pennine? (100 miles, but would it be as though as the two climbs above?)
The route I took was 75miles in total... constant climbing and decends.
I always consider myself to be pretty fit physically, I always wanted to do a century sportive ride, but after this, It really gave me a reality check! What I want to know is that:
1) Having got through the route above (just!), is my fitness level ok to go for a relatively flat 100 mile ride?
2) Same as question 1.. but what about King of the Pennines?
ps. I should add that I don't train regularly. I never been to the gym in my life. I do the odd session of turbo training once a week, 2 hours footy weekly, as well as some spur of a moment ride such as the one describe above... Bike is a charge juicer Hi (all steel), not got any cycling shoes at present, just using trainers!
Would be grateful for any comments and advice!
