Hi PH,

I've been here ages but haven't posted a right lot as yet. I've been debating with myself as to whether to put a thread up of my current motor and have decided to fly in the face of the inevitable abuse and go for it smile

A bit of background - I like Corrado's. My first was a lowly 2.0 8V that I bought in 2008, it was the only one I could afford to insure at the time as I was only 24 and money was tight. It was great, full leather, heated seats and a modern drive compared to the Polo GT I had before! Here's a pic:

Did some work on it (brake upgrades, wheels etc) took it to the 'RIng, had fun:

Then I decided that I wanted more power, so the natural progression was a VR6. Sold the 8V and found myself in this:

Again, decided to do some work on it - so after an engine rebuild (OBD2 conversion, chains, tensioners etc), brake upgrades and suspension work, I ended up with this:

But then, the inevitable happened and I moved out of the parents house into my own place. Almost immediately I couldn't afford to run the VR6 anymore. I was forced to sell both the VR6 and my Vauxhall-engined Mini frown However, on the day the VR6 was picked up I was contacted by the chap who bought the 8V from me who said it was up for sale. I snapped it up for a third of the amount that I got for the VR6 and I was back in a Corrado.

I ran the 8V for a bit, bought some winter tyres and subjected it to the ravages of 'that' winter of 2010:

Then things got silly, I'll let a few pictures do the talking. Basically, I really NEEDED a project, something to do. Plus, I wanted something economical that still looked good, and I was fed up with the crap 2.0 8V engine which while being reliable wasn't much fun.

So.....feel free to abuse! I built it myself over the course of about 4 weeks and if you're interested the full build thread is here (i've been told it makes a good way to waste half an hour!):

Corrado TDi Build Thread

To summarise, its a 1995 Corrado fitted with a 1.9 TDi from a B4 Passat. It's been finished for almost a year and while it's currently producing 90bhp/155lbft I'm in the process of modifying with an aim of 150bhp/280lbft. Nothing special but it should make it a reasonably brisk practical daily driver smile

Thanks for reading!
Tom

Wow, dude tbh, thats pretty cool and certainly different and i can see why you've done what you've done, cheap motoring in a sexy (brick shaped) body.

Tbh, its only what Volkswagen do themselves with the new 'rocco, so its not that weird;)

Cracking thread OP, I'm not a Corrado fan (had one it was a lemon) but I like what you've done here.

Considering some of the awful things the dub crowd do to Corrados I think this is brilliant.

clap
I imagine it has about the same pace as the old 8v anyway?

I like this, haven't seen a TDI conversion before on a corrado. There's a red mk1 golf one around I've seen on clubgti thats pretty cool too.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, Golf GT TDi perhaps as well, isn't that around 150bhp out of the box??

Good idea though, best of both worlds!

edit - half way through your build thread and I now see why you went for the Passat engine!

absolutely love that!
How come you went for the 90hp TDI and not a more modern one like previously mentioned which offered a bit more hp? Golf mk4 GTTDI etc? I have no idea if they would even fit etc thats why im asking.

The weight of the Corrado can't be far off a Furby. With a remap, they really can surprise a few things...

I think the op has fitted the 90bhp engine from the passat as its a simple plug and play swap whereas the mk4 golf units are more involved and require more work.

OP - that is top work and the TDI conversions are starting to appear on a more regular basis. With a Garret Hybrid turbo and fuel pressure regulator your 150hp target should b reasonably obtainable. I know someone running that sort of power in a mk3 golf TDI with the AAZ code engine which I assume is what you used or 1Z variant which is similar.

In the US there was a chap on VW Vortex who has built a few TDI corrados and has a couple of build threads here - http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=293320

I certainly won't be TDI'ing either of my corrados anytime soon, love the G60 whine and the Vr6 Howl far too much.

EDIT - just realised you are PURPLE TOM on the corrado forum aren't you!

I think you will find that the corrado is LIGHTER than a furby ( assume you mean Skoda Fabia VRs)

rolleyes Yeah, thanks for that - I'm well aware the Corrado is lighter. From memory the Corrado was about 1240kg? Fabia about 1315kg? Personally I wouldn't say that wasn't far off.
