Apart from all the usual stuff any "issues" particularly relevant to early Griffiths ?

thanks in advance for any comments / advice

Not sure it's a common issue, but my main complaint about my precat was the heater. Woeful. Could never get it working right. grumpy
Otherwise, superficially that looks like a nice car in a good colour.

The heater can be made tolerable with patience. The main issue I found with mine was related to the ancient alarm and immobiliser system. Once that was replaced with a new Toad system then I can't see a precat being any more hassle than a 500.

Best thing with the heater is to rip the lot out and invest in a nice warm coat. A lot more effective. hehe

Looks like a nice motor though.

Ignore LordGrover, he's a softy which is borne out with his move into something Japanese with a roof biggrin

The heater can be rubbish in the pre-cat, but it can be made to work at I guess about 75% capacity of what you'd expect of a more modern car with a bit of fettling and a lot of patience.

There are the obvious chassis problems with a carTVR of this age.
Other than that, use your eyes and ears and common sense and you won't go far wrong.
So, with your head under the bonnet, does it seem looked after, or is everything a bit furry and dull.
Does the inside look clean and tidy, or is it a bit faded and worn.

Take it for a run, not a thrash - a run. Any odd rattles or rumbles. Does the engine sound like a rumbly V8 or does it just sound a bit not right.
I test drove a Chim once which sounded 'off'.
Not surprisingly really because I found 2 plug leads not seated so it was only running on 6 cylinders.

Most things can be sorted out if you're happy with a spanner in your hand though, and I think you fall into this category.

Oh, and take someone with you when you inspect it. No matter how much you know about cars you'll still be like an 18 year old with beer goggles on when that V8 is fired up. A mate will tell you if she is a munter or sorted.

Actually, now I've looked at the photos and the price I'd say that is either going to shout MUNTER or is a real bargain.

Sorry to hear about that Phillpot, it sounded like a good un.

You could always make this into a WANTED thread now though and see if the PH TVR community can find you something.
Whats your budget and preferred colour scheme?

There have been a couple of other pre-cats on classifieds around 8500 recently so that's where I'm looking.

Not too fussy about colour, with so few available don't think I can be, but don't think green suits them( and I've got a green S3 already) and not mad on cream, biscuit, oatmeal or similar interiors, but could live with that if need be smile

Anyone got a nice car for sale ??
