Pretty much all manufacturers give their models a mid-life face lift. But for every redesign success story, there's also a Jodie Marsh.

A great example is the Giugiaro styled Fiat Grande Punto. It started out in 2006 as the design he is most proud of:

Then a couple of years ago it underwent a 'mare at the plastic surgeons:

And has recently been salvaged by a return to something more resembling its youthful years:

So PH'ers let's see some other cases of "should have left well alone". There must be dozens.

Saab 9-5

Also, every generation of the 3-series since the e30 has been slightly worse looking IMHO, same with the 5-series and the e34!

Alfa 156 gets my vote. As, in fact, does BMW's E46 - those little curly-uppy smiley-happy headlights turn me right off later cars.

That's a new model, not a facelift...

I haven't got pics but apparently the "bug eye" impreza was quite a big fail in terms of public opinion.

Yep.. I've got the feeling this thread is going to degenerate very quickly.

Do your research first folks - posting pictures of replacement models earns an automatic fail!

PS. Nice one about the Alfa 147, but I actually think the same front improved the 156 (the scooped out bumper of the original looked daft).

The bug eye wasn't a facelift, it was a replacement.

Not true, the later revisions of the Gen 3 coupe where definitely nicer looking than the first.

I also think the facelifted 156 is vastly nicer than the original.
