Just putting the car back together after a body off job to do the out-riggers. I have not yet connected the ECU. When connecting the battery the ice warning light is red, I am assuming that the ecu has nothing to do with it, can anyone confirm this ?

Apparently the sensor at the front of the car can get dirty and cause the light to stay on.

My experience was that cleaning it made it work again, but it seemed to have failed again later (i.e. stopped coming on).

Sorry, I don't know where exactly it is located; mechanic did the cleaning.
New sensors were available at the time.
I'm afraid it's one of those jobs I didn't get done, as I can tell when it's cold out without assistance biggrin, and was just happy that it wasn't on when it shouldn't be.

Taken sensor unit out and its broken, one of the wires to the small sensor has snapped at a point where you can't get to to fix it, so need a new one.
So from TVR its £20 + p&p. the bit that does the sensing is 99p from Maplins. Anyone know what make of car this sensor unit might be from, it does not have any markings or part numbers on it.
I am sure that TVR did not have is specially made for them.

Managed to get the unit apart and re solder the leads, put it all back together and ........ it all works, so that saves some money.
Some where in the car must be some electronics that convert the sensor into the green, orange, red ice indicator. Anyone seen where the electronics are ??. its a 1998 Chim.

The sensor is under the rad in the middle. it often sits low down in a load of wet crap.

It is a Thermistor which is temperature sensitive.

The whole unit is £20 plus but Clever Trevor I think sells just the Thermistor for around £4.

If you knew the correct spec one it would be 30p in Maplins

Fitted a sstandard to face lift models.
Any way fixed the problem.
Still have not found the associated electronics though.
